Time to pull out your bag of insults and diss your most loathed Hollywood superstar! Personally, Keanu Reeves disgusts me as an actor, and Barbara Streisand gives me the willies as an actress. Anyone agree?

Loathed and worst are two different things. As far as worst on acting ability I select...

Actress - Natalie Portman
Actor - Hayden Christensen

Keanu Reeves is in the 'Terrible Actor Hall of Fame'.

Good idea, but this should probably be in "Actors & Actresses"

Personally, I hate Ryan Reynolds as an actor. Not so much because of his acting, I just can't stand every character he plays.

Another actor I don't much care for is Paul Walker, who pretty much plays the same role in every movie he does, a shallow action hero without a personality. Pretty recently, a movie came out where the previews said "Paul Walker's best performance to date!" It's not really saying much unless the actor has had some memorable performances in the past.

For actresses, I don't know, Julia Stiles seems like a pretty crappy actress.

She wasn't so good in Star Wars, but I kind of liked her in Garden State and V for Vendetta.

I think Natalie Portman was awful in everything from Heat to present. I haven't seen V for Vendetta yet and I don't plan on it. She isn't the worst actress going but she is a Hollywood A-Lister. She delivers her lines with a bland and monotone disregard for the material. The prosecution would like to present Closer as Exhibit A.

What about Leon? Yeah, I know that's pre-Heat.

I didn't recognize this one until I looked it up and realized its also called The Professional. She wasn't bad in that or in Beautiful Girls(1996) which is post-Heat. Regardless, I can't understand anyone who claims she is talented and I trust that a movie aficionado such as yourself, Mark, would agree with me.

Oh man, this is tough, I'm just gonna go with two of the worst actors.

Tom Cruise: If all his best movies start his as the emotionless killer, the emotionless vampire, or the emotionless sports agent, sooner or later you'll notice he's not acting.

Van Diesel: For a man who lacks any originality or inflection in his voice, its hard to believe he had anything to do with the classic film The Iron Giant.

It's not that people have trouble reading it, it's just bad internet etiquette. All caps = screaming. Unless you're trying to scream your opinions at us, use normal caps.

Besides it being really annoying and unnecessary, it reminds me too much of the way Owen Meany talks in A Prayer for Owen Meany. Cool

I once responded to a similar thread and stated that I thought Keanu Reeves was the worst actor. Several disagreed and offered movies to watch to see if I could see him in a different light. However, I still think he is very shallow as an actor. He should bow before his agent and thank him daily, for he has landed some great parts that allow him to appear better than he is. Regarding actresses, I don't connect personally with Demi Moore. She has alwayas been overrated. But again, that is just me. There are many other actors and actresses who are terrible but I do not rate them at all. They are "cross-over" artists like musicians who want to act, or wrestlers, or body builders, etc. So I chose two who are expected to be great at their craft, and I feel they fall far short.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Steve Harris has probably never interacted with other humans 'cos the guy just doesn't get subtlety. Even if he craps onscreen, its over the top, the sound effects suggest explosions, the guy's face suggests some heroic deed is occuring and the delivery is befitting of a really bad Bollywood movie or a really bad telenovela, the operative words being "really bad".
Also Jake Gyllenhaal has been pretty disappointing since "Donnie Darko". He has come in a number of acclaimed movies, even praised for his performances but there is something about his technique that is offputting. There is an actor who immerses himself in each character to understand their layers, explore their Marianas like Philip Seymour, or Meryl or Cate and then there is an actor who delivers characters as a sum of accents, clothes, and dialogues without really putting the characters into context, try to understand where they are comin' from, in other words, he stands by one narrow interpretation as opposed to an interpretation made rich not by the writer's words but the actor's understanding of the character. The best way to highlight this would probably be to contrast Jake's performance with Heath's in BBM.
As for actresses, Brooke Burns and Keri-Lynn Pratt would be my top choices but that could be because they have never really had anything to show off their as-yet-hidden talents.

Thats ridiculous. Both have given fantastic performances, Portman in "Closer", "Garden State", "Where the Heart Is", and Christensen in "Life as a house" and "Shattered Glass". But hey! I fully expect equal incredulity in response to my little write-up on Jake.

Scarlett Johannssen, hands down. What a poser! No nuances, no subtlety, no range.

I agree about Keanu Reeves. A cigar store indian emotes more.

Some real bad actors:

Robert Taylor: One of MGM's leading men, this guy was absolutely horrible. He could not act. He was so wooden. Embarrassing.

Erroll Flynn: I like Flynn. He was a true movie star and had a certain insouciance he brought to swashbuckler roles like ROBIN HOOD & CAPTAIN BLOOD, but he was an absolute terrible actor.

Kevin Costner. He's had some good roles, but I think DANCES WITH WOLVES went to his head. Remember his ROBIN HOOD when he kept going in and out of his English accent.

Richard Egan. This guy may be the worst actor ever. He was a minor leading man in the 1960s and was he wooden.

Norma Shearer. One of three queens of MGM during the 30's (the others were Greta Garbo & Joan Crawford) but she was a terrible actress. She was married to Irving Thalberg, the number two guy at MGM, and that is why she stayed so long.

Cary Elwes made a much better Robin Hood, though has anyone noticed he plays basically the exact same character in THE PRINCESS BRIDE?

I've never cared much for Brendan Fraser: ok in The Mummy, boring role in Crash, other than that roles in gems like MONKEYBONE and BEDAZZLED.

Shawn and Marlon Wayans don't seem like great actors. (though wasn't one of them in REQUIEM FOR A DREAM?) Maybe it's just the screenplays of their movies that suck. All I know is there was only one question going through my mind when I watched the first 20 minutes or so of LITTLE MAN: "OMG, is this even worse than WHITE CHICKS?"

You know he's not as bad as you might think. He's been in mostly clunkers, but he was very good in GODS & MONSTERS.

Keanu Reaves takes the cake… and the plate… and the table displaying the plated cake… along with the building housing it.

Scarlett Johannssen is definitely a boring actress to watch.

Toby Maguire kind of annoys me. I don’t hate him at all, but as an actor he’s got that “The Cider House Rules” thing going on for his Peter Parker character. The “oblivious/nice-guy/looks-like-he-is-going-to-fall-asleep-at-any-given-moment” thing must work for him. That said, I’m still looking forward to Spiderman 3. Does that make me a hypocrite? ;-)

As far as Natalie Portman goes, she was brilliant in Leon, but Lucas scouted her out and she’s still recovering from her Padme role in the train wreck that was Star Wars. She was an absolutely amazing child actress, but she didn’t get enough experience with intelligent roles as she came of age… her acting is slowly maturing, I think. V for Vendetta showed a glimmer of what she’s capable of.

True, though I liked him in A SCANNER DARKLY. He's perfect for certain kinds of characters, but has no range whatsoever. He was cast as this happy, optimistic doctor in the romantic comedy SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE. Didn't work for me at all.

I'd have to agree. I mildly dislike either him as an actor or his characters, I don't know which, but I liked Spiderman. He always seems like too much of an innocent nice guy in his roles.

Trouble she had with an English accent aside, I think she has a lot of potential. V FOR VENDETTA and GARDEN STATE were both good performances by her.
