For my A Level coursework I need to find out exactly how far the portrayal of female sex appeal in film is different in the 1950s to the 2000s. I would be grateful if you could tell me which one of these actors/actresses you find most appealing. For the girls to reply to: Tom Cruise Gregory Peck Orlando Bloom Clark Gable Johnny Depp Cary Grant David Boreanaz Errol Flynn Jake Gyllenhaal Gene Kelly Patrick Swayze
For the boys to reply to: Rita Hayworth Jennifer Aniston Marilyn Monroe Keira Knightley Vivien Leigh Halle Berry Judy Garland Kirsten Dunst Judy Garland Paris Hilton Audrey Hepburn Uma Therman Lana Turner
Any response would be gratefully received. Thanks xx
I'd say the biggest difference would be the lack of media coverage into the private lives of the older actresses. During the 50's, husbands and wives slept in separate beds during sitcoms and many movies and were given a more "virginal" public persona. Many were protected by the studios and media unless of course they chose to pose for Playboy or marry numerous times. Nowadays, an actress can't cough without ten photographers catching it on tape and publishing it in one of 500,000 classless publications. The two things that fuel the total lack of secrecy with the lives of our celebrities are money and the desire of the general public to stay constantly over-informed. This is also why America cared about Clinton's sexual escapades more than those of Kennedy.

thank you for your response. i agree totally. nowadays acting has become more like prostitution, as any actress' dirty laundry is bared to the public eye with voyeuristic hunger.
