I have to say that "Save a horse ride a cowboy" is pretty much the only country song that I can actually listen to without going into a state of hatred. I generally hate country but I will make an exception for that.

"Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)" was actually kind of fun, especially for something from Warner, but there is an awful lot of independent music that rocks as hard and is much more fun. Most of it is lumped into alt-country and it's well worth a listen. You'll find a lot of good recommendations right here, pilgrim.

I to thought country music was yucky for the longest time, until I got away from the mainstream stuff on offer, and started exploring more obscure artists. I think it's a gtreat shame that "the country scene" these days has been hi-jacked by nationalistic propaganda. There's more to country than just loving your country.

I totally agree. I never listened to country until I started dating a guy who loved country. I def. liked stuff better than everything on the radion.

The only country song I've ever really enjoyed is that Loretta Lynn/Conway Twitty duet, "Lousiana Woman, Mississippi Man".

I've begun to enjoy country a lot recently but it's songs like "Save a horse ride a cowboy" that slowly retard that.

That song is a prime example of the unethical behavior of modern day producers and artists. The record companies are quick to supply the strings while an eager puppet shows up to hang himself with it for 2 seconds of fame. It's just another example of American hypocrisy. These "celebrities" talk about morals and even thank GOD for their fortunes but fail to live up to their teachings. It's a disgrace.

Country music was never about what it is today. There has been alot of dirty business going on even back in the old days during the greats like Merle Haggard and George Jones. But ethics were still important because family life was at the forefront of music whether it was to sell it or not. Now THAT concept isn't promoted anywhere. Not even for non-profit. There's alot going on in this country right now that seperates the good from the bad. Everyone has the ability to decide which side theyre on. I choose family over everything else because it's the only thing in this world that gives us long term happiness and something meaningful to take to our grave.

I am 34 and have been recording demos for artists for many years. Its not my profession but a serious hobby. Many have tried to lure me into the mainstream simply because of my gifts of being able to work on a low budget and still put out material that's way better quality than the commercial industry. Those greehorns don't know creative. They push their "auto pilot" buttons to throw together man-made artists that all sound alike. You dont even have to know music to do that. I wouldn't want know part of that. I have complete creative control in what I do. Recently I was asked to record "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" for a local band. I was a little reluctant because of the suggestive lyrics and my studio is right next to my house. And I didn't want my six-year old daughter catching the dirty lyrics. So I made sure that all singing was done through headphones in an isolated booth. It was recorded, mixed and mastered in 2 days. I charged the guys $100 since It didn't take up much of my time. And they used my instruments. They were blown away how much THEIR recording blew away the Big and Rich recording. I was impressed by the originality most of all. Todays music has no originality. Its not because of lack of talent, it's because everyone gets thrown through the same ole presets setup with ProTools.

The amazing thing about learning how to do something well, over time, but not at the expense of ethics is that you ultimately end up with the best of both worlds. You have all the things that family life gives PLUS you get complete expression of your inner self. And no matter if other people decide to be sellouts and a disgrace to the world I can see my own world as a place that was meant to be.
