I was wondering if anyone else here has read this. I started reading it and it was extremely interesting so I bought it off of Amazon.com. I was so excited when it came. I just wanted to know what anyone else thought of this Tom Wolfe book.

I have a copy of this book, but it seemed a little dry so I only got about 30 pages into it. Of course, this is coming from a Hunter S Thompson fan, so take that however you will.

An amazing book. Wolfe has an incredible way with imagery (it's anything but dry), and he totally places you in the mindset of the Merry Pranksters. I never really understood "hippies" until I read this book.

Another great book that examines how psychedelic drugs impacted science and society, and the drugs' roots in CIA's MK-ULTRA "mind control" experiments, is "Acid Dreams." I can't recall the author but it's on Amazon. Might sound outlandish, but it's all factual and very well-written. This book provides a greater context for what goes on in EKAT; I would recommend reading it first.

I'm a big Tom Wolfe fan and BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES is my all time favorite book. He just nailed New York City at that point in time.

I discovered Wolfe in college and gobbled up all his book in the early 80s. I can't remember much about KOOL-AID, other than the fact that I liked it. Was this the one that featured Ken Kesey & the Merry Pranksters who were dropping acid/LSD when it was actually still legal to do so?

Yeah, that's the one. I didn't know what it was about when I started reading it and then I was really interested when I found out it was about Ken Kesey.
