Someone mentioned both Bleeding Through and Throwdown. Worst. Bands. Ever. No offense, but shouting "Raise your fist in the air, DRUG FREE!!!!" is neither thought-provoking nor controversial or whatever they were going for. And i mention these two bands in particular because they're a part of my home scene (the only scene we really have... name one great band from Orange County? You can't do it, can you?)

Drop-D chugga chugga kneeeeeeeeeowwwww bark bark chugga chugga kneeeeeeeeeeowwwww

Someone download jud jud. AMAZING a capella hardcore parody.

On another note, listen to the song "Reveille" and try to picture it played by a no-talent one-chord-wonder playing in Drop-D. That is metalcore... Except the following bands:

Botch
Dillinger
Burnt By The Sun
OLD Cave In
Converge
Harkonen
The Red Chord

You know what, i don't even know what metalcore is so I'm gonna stop there. You could call Black Flag metalcore when they made "My War," and that just about slays everything else mentioned here.

Bleeding Through is fantastic.
I will admit Throwdown's earlier work is not that compelling. But, they do keep improving their sound.

Yeah, i think i just never gave Bleeding Through a second chance... I guess i "outgrew" metalcore, but slowly have started to listen to bands of that genre once again. Some of their lyrics were just too cheeseball for me (i.e. "Your smile makes me sick" in a very tough-guy voice)

I checked out all the artists you listed. The only one i like is "Shadows Fall".

Metalcore is my main musical focus. Thank you for your positive contribution to the thread.

As a sign of good faith, and to show that I'm not a total prick, I gave each of these bands a listen through their MySpace. My thoughts:

emmure - is this even considered metalcore? It's potentially one of the most annoying "core" bands I've ever heard. I'm sure they sell in the gazillions.

shadows fall - meh. Vocals suck.

the human abstract - Actually, very listenable - until the vocals kick in. This band has potential, but I'd rather the vocals were not so clean.

everytime i die - I probably would've like this 15 years ago when I was into Pantera. Nothing new here.

escape the fate - If the fate they are referring to is death, I would try to capture them, and kill them myselves. This is god awful 90's Incubus-level badness.

atreyu - Is this the Warrant of metalcore? I've actually heard of these guys before, and was expecting - well, I guess I was expecting something exactly this awful.

stick to your guns - What would otherwise be passable attempts at grind/death are ruined by the vocals - a mixture of typical metalcore clean shouting and weird choir-like shouting with tons of electronic reverb. Weird. Annoying.

the hoods - N/A couldn't find it

in fear and faith - Oh, they're so melodic...and no surprises here, appear to be sponsored by Hot Topic. Vomit inducing.

maylene and the sons of disaster - I think I just cummed by pants! Oh, wait, no. It's just shit.

To sum up: Gun to my head...I'd listen to The Human Abstract, but wouldn't like myself in the morning. Every other band - I'd let them pull the trigger. Hey, you can't say I didn't try.

I'm trying to see how many threads I can mention Melt Banana in, btw.
But all jokes aside, it's kinda annoying the lacking mentions of their album this year. Confused

Nice taste!

I especially like the comment about his older self laughing at him right now because it's so fitting. I used to love Bleeding Through, but MetalCore starts to get stale after a while. It's extremely homo-erotic with all the floor-punching and "brother" bullshit. Believe me, i was "IN" that "Scene" for a while... the Black hair, massive plugs in my ears (thank god they closed so i can actually get a job), girl pants, too tight T-shirts, you name it. That's not to make fun of your scene, because that would be making fun of myself 5 or 6 years ago. Just listen to these bands and enjoy:

Cursed
Burnt By The Sun
Pig Destroyer
Agalloch
Isis
Big Business
Baroness
Mastadon
Botch
Dillinger
(OLD) Cave-In (Though i like Jupiter as well)
SkyCameFalling
Shai Hulud
Converge
Cult of Luna
Meshuggah
Neurosis
Karp
Harkonen
These Arms Are Snakes (more Screamo I guess)
Kill Sadie
Gojira
Every Time I Die
Watain
The Red Chord

I can't think of anymore. But those bands should show you the light of what i like to call "intelligent" metal. Smart Man's Metal. It's not dumbed-down Gothenburg ripoffs (Cough Darkest Hour Cough Atreyu) and has some substance musically.

I would love for Metallica to be be impaled by a unicorn while walking in a straight line a la Nazi Germany before they get a chance to make that album.

Well Mike, you are a Metallica hater and you don't like metalcore, i assume. So, of course you disagree with this concept.

I wouldn't be surprised if Metallica made another album in which the drums drown out everything else and sound like that bum across the street playing on tin cans.

SERIOUSLY, "St. Anger" was horrific. Those guys need to grow the hair out and start pounding booze like they used to (i.e. when they were good).

Blimey!

It's pretty patronising on here for the young metalcore fan is it not?

I'm way too old to even know what metalcore is. I have been informed it's a mixture of metal and hardcore. In that case, I reckon SOD and Suicidal Tendencies would fit the description nicely.

I don't mind some of those albums, although Billy Milano's lyrics are often way too horrid.

I just read that "I Killed The Prom Queen" broke up in 2007. I recently discovered this band and
am truly disappointed. They will be missed.
