Hey, all. Why don't we have a Best of Metal thread for 2007? We all know that metal albums will get the shaft in the main "Best of..." thread, so why not start our own. I'm not sure we even need to keep score, but rather just list your Top 10 or 20 for the year. (I haven't made up my list yet.)

I have no idea. Have there been any decent metal albums released this year?

The only 2007 metal album I have heard is Systematic Chaos by Dream Theater. And I wouldn't consider it one of their top albums.

It's been emotional.

I haven't heard about many metal albums this year that interested me. But I guess I'm quite picky as well.

The ones that did turn me on are:

Deathspell Omega: Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum (just got it, but it sounds amazing)
Dillinger Escape Plan: Ire Works
Shining: Grindstone

I'm still waiting for Dødsvisioner by Bergraven to come in my door.

By the way, I'm not sure if they count, but in the stonerrock-department I've been really glad for:

Titan: A raining sun of light and love
Earthless: Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky

Neurosis and Begraven sounded pretty cool, and pig destroyer deserves some respect. But compared to Metallica, Pantera, and Megadeth, these bands are totally unworthy, imo.

As I Lay Dying "An Ocean Between Us"
Job For A Cowboy "Genesis"
A Skylit Drive "She Watched The Sky EP"
The Black Dahlia Murder "Nocturnal"

I can't really remember many, but I know there were some great ones that came out.

I was just going that he's comparing bands that aren't really that related. He's bringing out the dinosaurs but it still doesn't seem to fit.

Funny. I was going to reply to his response a few days ago, but then I started writing...and I thought...well, it's Hudson. So, do I really care?

Nice user name.

The best metal album of this year was The Pax Cecilia's Blessed Are the Bonds. Hands down nothing can touch it. They even offer the album completely free through their website so I recommend you guys all get it.

Free CD: http://www.paxcecilia.com/contacts.html just e-mail cd@paxcecilia.com with your mailing address

Well I was going to bring a few new ones into here, but JB pretty much kicked my ass on that.

My favorites.

Angelic Process
Deathspell Omega
Pig Destroyer
High On Fire
Electric Wizard
Neurosis

Actually I'm pretty sure those are the only metal albums I've listened to all the way through more than 3 times this year, but I like them all to some extent.

The Red album is great, but I'm thinking the older stuff may be even better. Does anyone know how to get a hold of the first two albums? They seem hard to find.

Thanks, Jglass, but I'm looking for the CD. Anyway, does anyone here listen to Alcest? Apparently, they (he?) were black metal at one point, but the new album sounds completely indie-fied to me. It's actually pretty good to my ears, although a lot of metal dudes would be pretty upset to hear me say that. Oh, well. That's the price I pay for not caring about what other people think.
