So, what are you guys listening to or looking forward in metal for 2008? Looks like Saviours "Into Abaddon" is the early favorite for "Fun Metal" album of the year. Of course, that award went to 3IOB last year.

I'm not so into it, but you may want to check out the new Disfear album "Live the Storm".

Well, the new Opeth album (due in June I think) should be amazing, especially since Akerfeldt is borrowing more heavily from Scott Walker, which can never be a bad thing.
I also just found out about a band called Baroness, a little bit like Mastodon, except more experimental and progressive.

I think he's referring to last year's album. Anyway, for anyone who likes the aforementioned Baroness or Mastodon, Iron Maiden, or Black Sabbath, do yourself a favor, and go out and get Saviours' "Into Abaddon".

That kills a band for me.
That's so funny. I formed the same opinion after I saw them open for Mastodon. Small world.

Defective Epitaph? I liked it, but I'm supposed to say the older stuff is better.

Yeah, I like Defective Epitaph though its not as good as the old stuff. A criticism for the album has been the drumming, i like the live drums, though he isnt the greatest drummer. I like that the album is more noisy, thats another criticism ive heard strangely enough.

Currently evaluating the new Origin "Antithesis" and Wrath of the Weak "Alogon" albums. Origin is mathy death metal, and WoW is one-man shoegazeblackmetal. I have high hopes for both.

After listening to Antithesis a couple of times, I can't really recommend it, unless you are the type of guy who just has to have every new death metal release. The relentless drum track (or god forbid, some dude is actually pounding away like a madman) is too annoying for me to take for more than a couple songs at a time.
As for Alogon, I've listened to it once fully. I'm going to hold off giving an opinion. I'm not sure what I think yet. In general, I dig the raw bm/shoegaze-ish vibe. OTOH, it's been done to death, so I think the bar needs to be raised a little bit higher. That's actually why I was disappointed with the new Leviathan. It's really getting to the point where my "it's all been done before" radar is starting to tingle.

Just got my hands on the new ones from Torche and The Sword. I'll post my thoughts in a day or so (or maybe sooner).
