Well after listenening to it, then going back to And Justice For All and "Black" album, this is some poor stuff! Why are they trying to evolve to new grounds of music??? Por Que!!!!!!!!

I haven't heard it, because I heard Load and Reload and decided just not to bother with Metallica anymore.
My guitar-playing brother picked it up because he liked Metallica's guitar solos..then found out the album doesn't have a single solo!
Metallica has way too fully embraced radio music. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, flashy videos. Throw in a few good hooks and play your instruments loudly over them. As far as I'm concerned, Metallica broke up after Black.

Ride The Lightning was Metallica's best album, without question in my mind. Master of Puppets and the Black Album are very good, and Kill 'Em All is decent, but the two Load albums and St. Anger are just terrible.
Definitely their worst album. However, I was very happy to see that they tried to return to their metal ways. But doing this minus guitar solos, with the awful production and with THAT drum sound was never going to be anything other then a bad idea. I can appreciate the fact that they wanted a rawer sound after the somewhat over polished production of their albums since the Black album, but this was NOT the way to go about it. Let's hope their new one is better then this.

I don't even entertain the idea that Metallica are any longer capable of releasing anything other than pure commercial trash.
Those guys are the biggest sell-outs in the history of music. Period.
Eh, that's a pretty touchy subject with me. Metallica are pretty much my favourite band, so naturally I'm slightly biased. Personally I think their first new song has some promise. It definitely needs some polishing, particularly the vocals and lyrics, but at least it has a guitar solo in it! I'm not gonna judge their other new song until I've heard a decent quality bootleg of it.
I strongly disagree with people labelling any band a sell-out. EVERY band is at least partly motivated by money and/or dreams of success. Rightfully so too. Like it or not, money is pretty much essential in this world to look after yourself and your family. As for your labelling Metallica specifically a sell-out, if they were really as motivated by money as people say they are, they would have recorded nothing but carbon copies of the Black album (their biggest selling album) instead of the likes of Load, Reload and St. Anger. Whether you like those releases or not, you can't deny that there is a vast difference the Black album, Load/Reload and St. Anger.
While St. Anger did have some nu-metal characteristics (down-tuned instruments, lack of guitar solos) and could therefore be labelled an attempt to pander to the masses given that nu-metal was arguably the most popular genre of music at the time, it was still a significantly heavier album then anything by the likes of Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Too bad they then decided to tour with these bands.....

The only reason they released those pieces of sh!t "load" and "reload" was to cash in on the reputation they had built with their fans. As for that brainless, uninspired garbage "st. Anger", well, all they did was prove that they no longer give a crap about making good music and, more importantly, are not capable of making good music.
Metallica is my second favorite band of all-time behind Led Zepellin. However, I hold the viewpoint that Metallica no longer exists. We do have 3 sell-out posers releasing albums and parading themselves as Metallica. But the Metallica that we grew to love and cherish is long, long gone.
They might be able to churn out a decent live show every blue moon, but the last time I saw them live they played a bunch of their lame, wannabe metal songs off St. Anger and load. Me and my buddies walked out of the stadium realizing that Metallica was dead.
And just so you know, it's a scientific fact that Metallica are indeed the biggest sell-outs in the history of music.
Read Bobthespirit's post in this thread. That pretty much sums it up.
It has some major flaws. But its not nearly as bad as some would have you believe.
Some people will never give them credit for anything and search for reasons to trash anything they do.
Well, St Anger didn't make it hard to find a few things for the mindless assholes to jump all over. The raw production, the lack of solo's etc. (As if these kinds of things are the make & break of an album.)
The Flaws with St. Anger as I see it were in its conception. For those unaware, the concept was "3 guys getting together for the first time in someones garage and jamming" Thats what it sounds like. Its raw & loose, no polish, sounds rushed or unfinished in parts. But by the same token is full of energy and life. I admit, it takes some work to like, and most people were never going to give it the spins it needed to grow on you. Most turned it on, immediately found a few points to trash and were satisfied that they'd found what they wanted.
There is a bit too much pro-tool cut & paste and some songs run too long without enough variation to carry the length. But overall, there is a lot to like. Its a starting point. If they can build on the positives the next album should turn out very good. Of course, whatever the next album is like, you can bet it will be trashed by a large number of people.

Yeah, well you can take that fake "raw" sound that Metallica is trying so hard to convince everyone is real and enjoy it all you want. Personally, I know what a farse sounds like. I've been listening to Metallica for over 20 years, have seen them live more times than I care to recall.
I've heard a couple of songs from the new album and they're simply horrible. James has never sounded worse and the music is so contrived a 13 year old could've written it.
The only people trashing Metallica are their original fans. The 30 somethings who've watched the greatest metal band of all time turn into a bunch of corporate asswipes. They're nothing more than a bad pop band trying to be metal.

Metallica sucks! Deal with it.
Yes, yes. You're not a real fan unless you hate them. I know the garb.
Excellent post by the way. I especially liked the part where you unwittingly admitted that you haven't even listed to the St. Anger album, only heard a couple of songs and given the material zero chance before writing it off on a first impression. Just like a 'real' fan should.
Aside from your pointless sarcasm, all Hudson said was that if you listen to an album pre-"Load" ("Ride the Lightning" or "Master of Puppets" preferably) then listen to "St. Anger" the albums were created by two different bands. Imagine this: You love Band A, they 'Retire' and several years later a shitty Band B has taken Band A's name and paraded themselves around as Band A (Except a sober version), that is how most of the previous Metallica fans feel.
Wrt 'real' fans, Hudson said "original," not true. It is a term that can be used to put things in sequential order.
