hehe. I used to looove Dream Theater back in the day. Of course, back then I also loved Mariah Carey. Needless to say, I'd still like to F*** one of them, and tell the other to F*** off. Guess which? Getting back to Dragonforce...I guess it just shows that "mainstream" metal is about as bad - maybe worse - than mainstream rock or pop. There's just no accounting for taste.

I never really 'got' Dragonforce. When they took off I was working at HMV and we sold bucket-loads of the stuff. Consequently I went to check them out on youtube (as you do). I thought the guitars were fantastic, but the whole thing was just so cheesey and I laughed my arse off. I imagine they are very entertaining live, but probably for all the wrong reasons. They are able to perform incredible musical gymnastics, so why opt for music as dumb as that? They should be working in far more intellectual realms of metal. Then again, they make stupid amounts of money. Being in that band must be a daily moral dilemma.

And what the hell is power-metal? My guess is it's when bands sound like Iron Maiden (whom i loathe greatly). Do these bands generate electricity?
They really are that big. They may not be on a par with the Britneys of this world, but they certainly make a lot of cash. HMV knew all too well that they'd sell out of CDs pretty fast and some comparitively big orders were made. Dragonforce usually get plonked on the promotional stands along with the shiny pop bands. Re: Generating electricity. I'm unsure what you mean there. For a moment, I had visions of Dragonforce working at the local power station in hard hats. If you mean 'Do they go down well at gigs?' I am led to believe that they regularly pack places out. They've sold out in quite a few venues in the UK and played to very receptive audiences. Not that I was there you understand! Re: Power Metal. An unusual genre that one. It's one of those terms that was created years after the music it refers to. Apparently it has it's roots in the overdriven tones of bands such as Judas Priest and ...erm... Judas Priest! Iron Maiden don't quite qualify according to most journalistic lists of what's what. Personally I just think it's heavy metal and I'm sure Rob Halford would agree - he even wrote a song about it.

He didn't want to enter this thread. He did anyway. He vomits whilst attempting to sneak out, slips in his own mess and cries. He knew better.

I dunno guys, I'm grateful for these guys existence, if only for their contribution to guitar hero. But really, I thought the last album had some decent moments. Haven't heard the new one.

In my opinion, most of the sources compiled on Metacritic for metal albums are, when it comes to metal, nothing more than genre tourists. Most of their focus falls to other types of music and they don't possess the breadth of knowledge necessary to place what metal they do review in the proper historical and cultural contexts. Hence, high scores for what most metal fans consider dogshit albums.

But i just noticed Underoath has a 92 metascore. Now that's a damn shame if you ask me. No one asked me, but I'll say it anyway: "That's a damn shame."
I listened to them once when i was in high school, thought they sounded like Poison the Well with keyboards and some chintzy drum machines. Is that what they still sound like?
Dragonforce is possibly the worst band name i've heard in a long time. I can't think of a single band with Dragon in their name that is any good... Reptilian animals usually don't work, unles you're the Jesus Lizard. Then you can do whatever you want.
Underoath has really turned it around since sounding like Poison the Well with keyboards, but that album is no where near a 92 obviously. I myself give it a 2.5/5. A pleasant but ultimately shallow listen.

Dragonforce is awesome. I'm so glad the internet allows me to hide the fact that I'm laughing like a loon right now. Still, they made the end of GH3 interesting. Although now I have to hear that damn "Through Fire and Flames" song everytime I go to the local bar...like tonight. I'll probably hear it tonight. Kill me now. So, to sum up: Dragonforce is awesome. *Strangled sounds*
