Any Velvet Cacoon fans out there? I became interested in this band when a friend of mine (who listens to more metal than anyone I have ever met) was telling me about there odd back story. I only have the album "Genevieve" (I have no idea if there are others, or if so, which ones would be the ones to check out) but it is excellant, and I am curious to see if anyone else out there is as obsessed with these guys as much as my friend is.

I've never heard of them, but I'll bite on some ambient/black metal.

It appears that Genevieve is from 2004, and that they also have an album from '02 and '05. I grabbed the '02 album and Genevieve.

What's there odd backstory?

they created a really crazy story behind the band before they went public, so there were all these rumors about the band swirling before anyone even knew who they were. its not certain what is true and what is not true about the band - there might only be one member for all i know. there have been an assortment of rumors and claims by the band, among them - they are asexual, a member died jumping off of a cliff, they used to be hard line extremist environmentalist, they make up albums or claim they were stolen, they have created and used an instrument that is made out of a drill and is played under water. you get the picture. the lead singer has said that a lot of this is made up as satire on the black metal scene. this is all i can remember, but my friend could write a fucking book on these guys - he was on the message boards where all this crap was being leaked. oh, black metal kids, how ridiculous can you get.
