A sad and crazy story. I'm not a Pantera fan, but this is just a terrible thing...

That's sad...Wonder why the guy did it. The most obvious reason, would be for an extremely religious psycho to disaprove of Pantera and the like and decide to do some work for God. Or it could be someone who dislikes Pantera for other reasons. Another possibility, is bad blood between the shooter and Darrell. Or maybe, I am overanalyzing and the shooter was just a maniac with no motive. No idea, but it is terribly sad.

I was completely blow away by this news. I was a fan of the guy in his "Diamond" Darrell days with Pantera in the "Mouth For War" era, Vulgar Display of Power, etc. In fact, I'll always remember him for the RIP 7th Anniversary Party at the Hollywood Palladium when he played louder than anyone I've ever heard. It literally crossed the pain threshold. I noticed at least 5 other people in the mosh wince when they started playing some of the new stuff off of "Far Beyond Driven."

I actually would guess it's a simpler theory, like they guy stole the shooter's girlfriend, or something like that. I don't remember Pantera having any particular religious leanings, other than simply wanting to get stoned. In my mind, this death ranks up there with Randy Rhodes in significance, even though the glory days of speed metal have really passed us by. Pantera did carry the torch for many of us after Nirvana & the rest of the Seattle assh**es killed metal....

Death to Videodrome... long live the new flesh!

Sorry to walk over your tribute, but when I heard the news I posted an independant thread in the General music section, without checking first. I was so blown away I just had to vent right then and there.

I hope, in respect to the victims, that we don't use this forum to discuss this issue. Please post a seperate thread on this topic, and leave this one for the posting of tributes.

Yeah , I know. But emotions can run high around an issue like this. Let's just try to keep things in perspective.

It could've happened at any night club to any of your favourite groups or artists. That's perspective. The nut also shot and killed like 3 other people before getting offed by the pigs. Lunatics like that just have no reguard for human life. Empathy all around.

I've seen some ugly scenes at shows (violent mosh pits, ugly brawls, artists getting hit by thrown bottles, and racial hatred boiling over between skinheads and everyone else at a Special Beat show) but this incident and the Great White fire really strike a chord of fear in me, for some reason.

The news is reporting, that the killer was apparently a fan, who was "angry" that Pantera broke up. But who really knows? Concerts are not exactly safe this day and age.

Latest news is saying a friend of the killer is alleging the man believed Pantera had stolen songs from him. I didn't catch the rest of the story...

Disapproving of the band's music for religious reasons hardly seems like an "obvious reason" for killing someone. Is there any evidence to suggest that this was the case?

Of course, considering that the assailant is dead now, we'll probably never know of his motives.
