I wouldn't call Pantera thrash, either (too slow and groovy), but I don't see how Metallica isn't, since they were among the first thrash metal bands in existence. Darrell's soloing style, however, is reminiscent of thrash in its fast and frenetic use of pentatonic licks.

Trying to choose between Metallica or Megadeth is like trying to choose between food or air. We need both to survive. Each have unique qualities.

Oh man... ANY Metallica/Megadeth video on Youtube will be filled with flame wars on this.
I saw a video of Metallic talking to some Make-A-Wish kids who mentioned that kids at their school get into fights over this very topic.
James had the correct response... by laughing and saying "wtf? Does it matter?"
That's my take on it. Sure, Mustaine may have this whole deal going about Metallica screwing him over, but in the end Megadeth has been really successful regardless. They're both great bands.
