I've picked up from other threads that the DS is pretty solid, but Im looking at the game library and it looks to be unfortunately mediocre. What are your thoughts on Nintendo's new handheld??
quote:The DS has really weird controls (at least on the Metroid Prime demo). at the bottom was a map and the touch-screen and at the top was the actual gameplay. When you used the stylus up and down it made you look up and down. Then there were the four main buttons that moved you left, right, up, and down. It was really strange.
I was impressed with the graphics but I despised the controls. The graphics were actually quite good, not what I am expecting from the PSP, but still fairly well done. I also think that they were stretching a little too far, including a chat room style feature to it, where it is clearly unneeded. That is pretty much as far as my experience with the system goes.

I'm fairly pleased with the DS so far, the titles aren't any where close to being there yet though. Mario 64 is still lots of fun - I find the Metroid demo to be ALOT of fun. The system feels just like that, a system instead of a regular handheld. I haven't seen a good use for the stylus other than pictochat and the mini games in Mario. Battery life is very good also. Overall I'm pleased, now there needs to be some titles worth buying for it.
The DS is an alright system. Like I said before my brother has one and he's a fanatic about it, he's got Madden, Feel the Magic, Mario, and Drill Spirits. What he's really waiting for are the titles like Viewtiful Joe(totally awesome), Animal Crossing(wonderful idea for the touch screen) and Puppy times or Nintendogs. I work in retail so I guess I could've bought one, but I'm just waiting for some solid games to come out, besides Mario. Plus the PSP...I don't know yet, that thing might be a little pricey, but the screen is huge.
I love it, especially because I have a big GBA library and the old games look great (read, 10x brighter and more colorful). controls took getting used to (esp. Mario 64) and I was initially disappointed but now I like it. I think this "learning curve" is responsible for some of the lower scores, although a lot of the games really are terrible. But this is no N-GAGE. Some really incredible games are coming out: Advance Wars, Castlevania, Warioware DS.... s'ok, by the time the PSP comes out the DS developers will be on 2nd generation games. if you don't have one already wait until the games come out and the price drops. very happy w/ it now though.
