A very interesting handheld games machine from GamePark of South Korea. Can this be a credible alternative to Sony's PSP? http://info.alllinuxcd.com

I’ve been following it for a while now and I want one, but not yet… it’s still got a few things to be worked out first.

Hardware comparison with the PSP… http://gp2x.us/

Official forums… http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?showforum=41

I’m looking at it with the idea of playing all the old console games through emulators… however, I’ve never been impressed with trying to play old d-pad console games with an analog stick. Maybe there will be a replacement option for that some day.

I don't know if this is what your talking about Cody but I heard that there's a PSP modd that you can download on old PSX games. I just was wondering if anyone else heard of this and when it comes out. I still haven't beaten FF7 and wanna play Legend of Dragoon and FF Tactics again on the go.

Though there are many great PS1 games, when I said old console games… I’m talking about the SMS, NES, Genesis, SNES… hell, I’d even play a few Atari and ColecoVision games or some old DOS games. That is what the GP2x is more than capable of, but it needs a 4-way d-pad to make the old console games play well. In that regard, I like the PSP. However, Sony will continually offer cool things to get you to upgrade your PSP so that they will stop all “homebrew” applications.

The GP2x is all about emulators… and the company behind the system seems to have taken on a policy of allowing the community to use the system as they wish. Some guy is currently wiring his own d-pad in place of the analog stick on the official GP2x forums. He plans on offering his services to convert people’s handhelds in the future (for a little cash, mind you). Try pulling that shit on Sony’s forums… ;-)

PSP killer? No, but it's a great idea. I would love to play several different games on one handheld system, and the idea of simply downloading them onto it through emulators is a great idea. The downfall, however, is that the majority of people don't have the ability or knowledge to use emulators. Also, who would carry it? Maybe a few online stores and specialized gaming stores, but probably not at your local target or Kmart.
