Does anyone know what those poles are that link can jump up on? They're topped in gold. They are everywhere but I can't seem to make them useful. Also on the wayfarer's island how do you make the mermaid come to you? Something about showing your wayfaring heart???

Wayfaring Island - the mermaid will always come out inthe open when around the house there, but if you face her - she dives into the water. With your back to her - equip the boomerang and draw the path to her....hit her then you can talk to her. Next time you come to the Island she'll be in the house.

Those poles, they require the hookshot - which you don't get until later in the game. They came up with some pretty creative ways for you to use those poles.
