Have I made a poor investment?

I was reading a few reviews on MGS Portable Ops and realized this one thing. MGS (according to Metacritic) is now the #1 high scoring games on the PSP. This beats out LUMINES and WIPEOUT which were released way back when when Sony debuted their system. So I thought, "It took over a year for one PSP game to overcome Lumines?" Now that I'm overlooking the "High-Scores" I'm realizing that I do own the first top four games, and #6 is a movie not even a game. And Ridge Racer? Granted I've never played it before, but is it really that good to beat out Dark Mirror (Awesome game btw).

I also noticed that a lot of DS lites were selling this Christmas and hardly any PSP's were selling. I also found this graph I'm not so sure about the source, but DS has been dominating ever since.

I just wanted to know the opinion of all the other PSP owners and where the market is heading. Will the PSP be another loss to Nintdeno's powerful handheld market? I don't know, but so far, I like my PSP and I hope they keep making games for it.

I know your looking for responses from PSP owners, but I don’t consider myself to be a fanboy of any system. I own a DS Lite (my first handheld system).

I really wanted to buy a PSP. It’s a beautiful system; powerful, great screen, smart control layout. However, I bought a DS Lite instead because the existing library of games (and the ability to play the entire GBA library as well) won me over.

This a good site to keep up with game hardware and software sales… http://www.vgcharts.org

North America loves the PSP, but the world has embraced the DS.

I don’t think it was a bad investment for you to buy the PSP. It all comes down to whether or not the games available are satisfying you or not. I will not buy a PSP until it has more titles that interest me. I won’t consider buying a 360, a PS3 or a Wii until they have a good handful of games that I want to play.

Seriously though, the PSP is a very slick system. I’d love nothing more than to buy one when its library matures.

This is MHO, the library should be matured NOW, the system has been out for an extended period of time.

There has been plenty of time to have a long list of great games. I don't think PSP will go anywhere though - that'd be a sign of failure or or defeat, but the sales numbers have spoke and Nintendo still owns handheld and I don't think that's going to be changing for a long time to come.

Over two years after buying my DS, I'm still working this unit out daily....and there's a list of titles I still would like to pick up, not mention the new games coming this year...now if they can just get me a handheld cube format system :P

For the longest time I've pondered over buying a PSP, but with the release of PlayStation 3 and my plans of purchasing a new laptop and my own HDTV for my room... I'll have to pass and save every single penny I can...I'll need it Big Grin

The DS will dominate the handheld this year, but the psp will slowly slip through the cracks. The wii will be the dominate the home console for years to come.

Wii kicks ps3 and xbox360 butt!!!!

i'm gonna hafta agree with "THE_BEST6761". seriously, if you say that wii is better than xbox or ps3 then u have never even seen a ps3, or an xbox.all nintendo's been doing is making games that have only mario and friends.they need variety, imagination..i would totally buy anything else BESIDES a nintendo system.

All 3 consoles are good for different reasons and different strokes for different folks. When you say “all nintendo's been doing is making games that have only mario and friends”, yes, yes Nintendo only make games with Mario and friends, Legend of Zelda Metroid etc. There is reason for that, it’s because they’re Trademark Nintendo Games. Now, if the point you were trying to make was that Nintendo only make “kiddy styles games” again you’re wrong i.e. Metroid. If the point you were trying to make was that the Nintendo Wii only released Mario related games, again you’re wrong.

Here is a list of Wii games from gamespot.com

And another from Wikipedia

And another from Nintendo Website

I don’t remember Resident Evil – The Umbrella Chronicles, Call of Duty 3, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Spiderman 3, Guitar Hero’s Legends 3, Resident Evil 4, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Red Steel, Tomb Raider Anniversary, WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw, The Simpsons Game, The Godfather Blackhand Edition, Scarface – The World is Yours or Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 ever having “Mario and friends” in them.

That’s one of the most ironic things I’ve heard this year. The Wii and the DS make their systems more interactive by breaking out of the norm, and you think they need more imagination? I guess by your standards, PS3 and X-Box 360 are trailblazers of imagination in the gaming world with their consoles that offer little more then brute processing power as a means of enhancing game-play.
