Hell, that's the whole ballpark right there. There's no argument that in the gameplay department the PSP will be on par with the DS, but if Im paying 250+ extra dollars for the PSP to do something sort of mediocre-ly, no, I'm not willing to fork out the cash.

Wait! The PSP plays dvds!!!???
I didnt know that! Can the DS play dvds too?

They both seem kind of small to play dvds, doesnt it?

The PSP plays movies off of their UMD and the DS is strictly made for gaming. As a portable GAMING machine I think the DS will be hailed the winner, as a portable entertainment system (that's priced like a REAL entertainment system) will hands down go to the PSP.

Well, I have a couple bits of information. I would first like restate what the games editor said (The PSP will be realeased for under $200 in JAPAN). This means it will probably be $250 in America. I also found a couple good links for both the PSP and DS.

A good picture of the PSP

Information on both the PSP and DS

The PSP in action

The DS in action

No, neither will play DVDs. However, the PSP will be able to show movies on it's own disc-type, which can hold about 120 minutes of video. Details are still sketchy, but you won't be able to play standard DVDs in either handheld.

And to correct my previous post, the price is about $230 in usd for the PSP.

Insn't it $230 for the Value Pack? Not the system alone.

Yesterday, Bestbuy released a display for the DS with a demo for Metroid Prime. I thought it was cool but I generally wasn't impressed. The controls were terrible and confusing. I was surprised at how good the graphics are, but I still think that the PSP will have better graphics. Just giving my initial opinion of the DS. I think I will wait for the PSP.

The PSP will most definitely have better graphics. There isn't even a debate.

That in no way means it will be better, however.

I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

My only worry about the PSP, is that this is Sony's first handheld. But I doubt they will do something stupid. But the DS has really weird controls (at least on the Metroid Prime demo). at the bottom was a map and the touch-screen and at the top was the actual gameplay. When you used the stylus up and down it made you look up and down. Then there were the four main buttons that moved you left, right, up, and down. It was really strange.

See, I think this control scheme is kind of brilliant. It takes the precision of a mouse and keyboard and moves it to a handheld. Now I havent played it for myself but theoretically it should be just like "Half-Life".

It really wasn't that precise, i.e. terrible controls. And the touch screen was too touchy using the stylus.

DS, yo'. I have mine on pre-order, and it's coming in tomorrow.

There really aren't any games on the PSP which interest me, apart from, maybe, Metal Gear Acid. Then the PSP's outrageous price ($800 Australian), hardware faults (the unresponsive Square button and rumoured ejection of cartridges) and non-existent battery life don't help matters.

It was a fairly easy choice, for me.

I've had my DS since launch day - no complaints what-so-ever with the controls. MP: Hunters plays great using the thumb strap, I tried the other options and they aren't as good. Mario 64 controls great using the thumb strap as well - use it for about 5 stars and you'll be a pro with it. Battery life is just as good as the GBA-SP. I think people that make calls on their 'limited' play time at the local whatever store may be selling themselves short here - the DS is and feels like a hand-held console. Software titles are weak right now (I think) but the titles will be there.

PSP - the video of the ejecting disk scares me - and being how everone I know (from Alabama to Toronto) that has a PS2, has had to buy more than one for whatever reason of something breaking down on it. I think I'll pass on Sonys' unit until it's been out for a year or two and it's proved itself as a reliable handheld DISK based system. Oh yeah - I've heard loading times are up to 1 minute from power up to play a game. The system also seems to be forcing a bunch of proprietary media from Sony for memory and media - YAY!!

Okay, with more information out on the PSP, I was wondering if anybody was smart enough to reserve one. With only four days left until the release date, I'm planning to wake up at 7:00 am and drive to Target and wait outside the doors until the store opens up at 8. Problem is I don't like buying something the first time it comes out, without reading a review (something I should have learned after buying Xbox's WWF RAW). I have a feeling that while the PSP should remain in it's box, and with the reviews looking pretty good, I might not be able to hold off. With the temptation power of the Holy Grail, I don't think I'll be able to withstand its powers.

Yes, I was able to reserve one, and I just paid it off today so that I'll be able to "swoop" in on Thursday morning and walk away with the PSP, WipEout Pure, Ridge Racer, and Lumines. I actually dragged two family members to my local Electronics Boutique so that I could get a couple of them for friends so we could play WiFi multiplayer WipEout. We're all PSX WipEout XL freaks.... I'm fired up!

How much did you have to pay for the 3 game deal and all that stuff? I think I might get my standard package for only $200.00, and how much space do you think I would need a 512mb or a 256? Im leaning toward a 512 but, I'm not sure if I need that much space.

p.s. I WANT LUMINES! but our store won't sell it on the release date so I'm not sure if I'll have any games for it. Frowner

p.s.s I wish Acid did a little better in the reviews. A little off topic but I hoped Yoshi's Touch and Go would be better too.

Hey playboy MGE I GOT ONE!!%^%$#$#$$$$$$ Freakn $280 still with nearly 20% off.

I got Wipeout Pure, a card 10-in-1 card reader, dentine ice vanillia flavored gum, some 2032 batteries, and the system itself. I had to drop out Ridge Racer, and the 256 memory card to get it from $360 to $280. Lame Sauce. I was right, I couldn't resist, and I just previewed Spiderman 2 on it for awhile; the quality is astonishing. Eeker

p.s. I really hope I don't get buyers remorse. Don't let me down Sony, this is only the major product I've ever bought from you.
p.s.s.-Don't worry...I still love you Xbox Roll Eyes

Good job! I just got mine this morning, too, but I haven't even had time to open it --- so many dang PSP reviews to post... I'll get to it later tonight. I doubt you'll be having buyer's remorse. Just don't touch or scratch the screen!! Smiler

Okay so it's been a couple of months already since I got it, (almost four) and my 1st PSP had three dead pixels on it. I returned it like last month on June 23rd. Then I had to open my second PSP which I was going to sell away. This one was better it only has one dead pixel on the left side. I could manage with one dead pixel on the screen. Then when I was going to work I was hopping down my front door stairs when, pop.....whooosh...whooosh......CraShHhHhh. I stood there in disbelieve and I turned around to see a PSP pelican armor face plate seperated from my psp and the psp itself, lying face down on my rocky cement sidewalk. I don't know why I wasn't crying or anything, I guess I was bummed out by I dusted him off and now he has a few ugly choppy dents on the bottome of the PSP (it looks like a black starburst which somebody bit a few times and threw it on the ground and stuff) and then my wrist strap has a crack running through it.

I rented Lumines and I liked it, but I wish there were more modes, but I did like the music. I picked up Tony Hawks Underground 2 Remix for 39.99 and I haven't opened it yet. I also bought Kill Bill the movie and I have 85 gold medals in WipeoutPure and 1 silver medal. I still got to beat that game.

p.s.Freakn armor snapped off and didn't even protect my LCD.

p.p.s-There's hardly any noteworthy games coming out that I'm looking foward too. Yeah, GTA, Burnout Revenge, and GT4, but that's about it, and thoes aren't coming for a long time. It seems like Sony's making more stupid $29.99 movies for the system then the games. People are forgetting what the most special feature of the PSP is-the ability to play cool games....
It better not be the Nintendo DS but in reverse(good release date games, bad future games)
