Right now I like "Sober Driver" by Dengue Fever. I'm in love with the lyrics and their awesomely overstated melodrama. It's like MacArthur Park without the histrionic vocals.

Didn't care all that much for the whole Merz album, but the first song, the title track, is great.

"Carolina Drama" by the Raconteurs is my favorite song of 08 so far. "Quarintined" by Atlas Sound it also very good.

I think the new Death Cab song is really boring and overlong. It's almost like they said, "We need to be unconventional, let's write a really long song!" The result is 4 minutes of completely unnecesary intro followed by lackluster indie-pop and uninspired lyrics. Give me the photo album. Give me a rock and roll disc.

My fave songs so far include, but are not limited to:-), the following songs:

Cloud Cult - When Water Comes To Life (The whole album is magic)
The Dodos - Jodi (Actually the whole album is stellar)
Kaizers Orchestra - Bastard Sønn
Times New Viking - Teen Drama
British Sea Power - Waving Flags
The Kills - Goodnight/Bad Morning
Crystal Castles - Black Panther
Jaymay - Gray or Blue
Evangelicals - How Do You Sleep?
Fuck Buttons - Sweet Love For Planet Earth
Tapes 'n Tapes - Say Back Something

Actually, there are loads more great songs from 2008, but if I were to include last year's songs, Of Montreal - The Past is a Grotesque Animal would still top my list. I will never grow tired of it..

Love to see another fan here. One of my favorite albums so far this year.

I wanted to mention Bon Iver - "Creature Fear". Beautiful chorus.

About half the tracks on Crystal Castles are worthy of mention.

Yes, Den Andre Er Meg is absolutely among the stand outs of the album. Maybe the second best track IMO. How do you rate the album in comparison with Maestro? That record made me totally reconsider the group. Before it I thought of them as more of gimmick, while Maestro is probably one of the top 10 Norwegian rock albums of all times. The new one, Maskineri is also quite good, even if it doesn't come close to the magic of Maestro

Islands - Creeper

It's almost a rival for "Rough Gem" for their catchiest song.
