Heavy on my rotation this week:

The Walkmen "Canadian Girl"
Crystal Antlers "Vexation"
Silver Jews "San Francisco B.C."
Okkervil River "Lost Coastlines"
Plants and Animals "Keep it Real"
Frightened Rabbit "Backwards Walk"

I know some here may rip it... but I dig the new Kings of Leon single "Sex on Fire." Good rhythm, good energy.

I don't mean to imply that it is musically superior to anything else released in 2008, but T.I.' s new single "Whatever You Like" is about as perfect as radio-ready hip-hop gets these days. It's been stuck in my head for days. It has the same effortless cool that "What You Know" had back in '06, but this time it's a slow jam. It's a great pop single.

I like King by T.I., but that is the only album I've heard from him. I haven't heard the new single yet... will now.

"The Modern Leper" / Frightened Rabbit (everyone seems to have their favorites from this album)
"Simeon's Dilemma" / Why?
"Martha Ann" / David Karsten Daniels (so brief and sad and sweet)
"If Only I Knew" / Jeff Hanson
"Glorious Ballad of the Ignored" / PAS/CAL (This whole album wins. I'm having a hard time convincing others, but to spur your interest, think Belle & Sebastian + Of Montreal + Brian Wilson.)
"Don't Haunt This Place" / The Rural Alberta Advantage
"Aloyisius, Bluegrass Drummer" / Silver Jews (everyone has their personal favorites from this, too)
"I Don't Always Know What You're Saying" / Ladyhawk (this one track blows the rest of the album away)
"Teenagers Talking" / Sunny Day Sets Fire (They've earned comparisons to The New Pornographers. They hail from Italy. And Hong Kong. And Canada.)
"That's What It Is" / Immortal Technique (incendiary political hip hop)
"Sixteen" / The Indelicates
"Thou Shalt Always Kill" / Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip (hilarious for music fanatics, I think)

Those last two were previously released in prior years, but, as they say, they're new to me.

I like the Rural Alberta Advantage and Ladyhawk picks, FW, though I disagree on the quality of the rest of the Ladyhawk album. I think it's a great album with several other standouts, particularly "Faces of Death."

Deerhunter - Vox Celeste

I know it's been done before, but it's just such a perfect remake.

I've been up to my neck in wine

I ordered this album (technically a homemade CD-R preview package; the regular CD is forthcomgin, but how knows when) less than 3 hours after he sent out the update, and I still haven't gotten it. Other people giot it 3 days ago. I live in the same state as Elephant Micah, but I guess I should've ordered it through Third Uncle instead of his home page. Very frustrating.

It's a very good album though. Definitely worth the wait, though I can understand your frustration.
