I guess it is never too early to start!

Three tunes have really jumped out to me from teh new Magnetic Fields album namely "California Girls", "Too Drunk to Dream" and "The Nun's Litany". All great tunes with killer hooks.

Another great song that I have just been turned on to is Tyler Ramsey's "Once In Your Life" and awesome folk country tune. The song starts out slow, but really builds into foot-stomping fun.

What has struck everyone else for songs from 2008?

"Too Drunk to Dream" is a really good song off of Distortion. The lyrics hit a bit too close to home, though.

I still don't know the names of the stand-out tracks on British Sea Power's new album, but that's mostly because I've been listening on my iPod and not glancing at every title. When I figure out titles, I think there's one or two that I'd post here.

Yeah, I love that song, too. "Atom" is probably my favorite off their new album so far. Not really any filler on it.

"Enjoy The Ride" by Morcheeba is not only my current favorite song of 2008, it's better than any single song I heard from 2007 as well. My appreciation of it has only gone up since my initial reaction. It's quite something.

Yes, seconded, so does the harpsichord. And when he shouts "glass" at the end and the violin comes back I grin like a loon.

"2 Daughters and a Beautiful Wife" - The first song off the new Drive-By Truckers album is really awesome. In fact, I like nearly every song composed on the album by Patterson Hood. Cooley and Tucker, however....

"Cherry Tulips" by Headlights has been a favorite so far in 2008. Just an awesome pop song that can I relate to.

Great track but I'm kind of loving 'Open The Door' the most right now.

MIA - "Paper Planes"
Laura Marling - "Ghosts"

Are both big tracks in the UK, both are being talked about a lot.

Yeah, mate, I agree completely. Even the title of that songs chokes my throat. I think the refrain comes up in another song as well. I'm also really fussing over 'The Monument Valley'. In this song they sing "history's is made by the side of the road". I had the privilege of delivering my son on the side of a country highway in the middle of the night a while back and that one line is making me all teary all over again. Frowner Smiler

"Marduk T-Shirt Men's Room Incident" - The Mountain Goats

The female vocals make this a breathtakingly beautiful song.

"The Sad Song" from Fredo Viola's album The Turn is pretty great. I'm not crazy about the album, but this song, with its layered vocals, hits the spot. Check it out at his Myspace page.
