I am looking forward to that Atlas Sound album when it comes out this Tuesday. Thanks for those of you (rygar) that have placed asterisks next to stuff that isn't even out yet, it really does help.

1 Midnight Boom ~ The Kills
2 Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel ~ Atlas Sound
3 Vampire Weekend ~ Vampire Weekend
4 Safe And Sound ~ Justus Köhnche
5 Antitdoes ~ Foals
6 Rip It Off ~ Times New Viking

*Destroyer
*Bon Iver
*Mahjongg
*Fuck Buttons
*Be Your Own Pet

I need to decipher the Asterix Five before they can represent my understanding successfully in a numerical list.

I've heard far more than is registered here, such as Black Mountain's In The Future and several other familiar names, but i'm not exactly going to place them anywhere in the name of presence alone.

I think he's saying that he's not going to list them just because he's listened to them.

Of course, it would help to know what other albums you've listened to, so I can judge whether your tastes match mine or whether you've listen to a particular album that is not on your list and did not think it worthy.

Take it easy, Krug. I don't think JP's comment was directed toward you.

Haha. I apologise if i unintentionally offended any Metacritic members. The Fall of Troy is on my wavelength, as he managed to decipher my comments correctly. The following paragraph and alphabetically artistically organised list are in honour of the aforementioned user.

Listed below is a brief collection of records i have had differing degrees of pleasure listening to from what short insight we have witnessed of 2008 thus far:

Devotion ~ Beach House
In The Future ~ Black Mountain
Made In The Dark ~ Hot Chip
There Will Be Blood OST ~ Jonny Greenwood
Beat Pyramid ~ These New Puritans
X Marks Destination ~ The Whip

EDIT: Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago was omitted from the above numerical list as i had previously classed it as a 2007 release. But with the reissue on Jagjaguwar i've reconsidered its eligibility - the record will definitely make an appearance on my next list.

To whoever mentioned The Mae Shi, thank you! HLLLYH is such a great album. I love the 11 minute epic track.

Atlas Sound still rules all this year... so far Razzer.

I think most everyone who has put their lists on here know what they are talking about. I think that their are a lot of bands out there now that I must listen to. However, sometimes I think that some of you go too eclectic, or try to be too different and forget about some of the best albums of the year. I'm not a mainstream guy, but there were a few good ones this year:
My list of the top of the year so far:

Drive By Truckers- Brighter than Creations Dark
MGMT- Oracular Spectacular
The Mars Volta- The Bedlam in Goliath
Xiu Xiu- Women as Lovers
Lupe Fiasco- The Cool

i wasn't taking offense, sorry if my comments made it appear that way. i thought he was asking what else i had listened to this year, so i posted the rest of the albums that i had listened to this year. i was just trying to be informative. i apologize if i came off as anything other than this.

oh, and tdubz i think that it is near impossible to be "too ecletic". people should listen to whatever they like, and if this takes them to disparate genres of music, or more obscure sources who cares? i think that an argument can be made that any of the albums you mention are solid (outside of the new mars volta, which i just can't feel anything but repulsed about), but if this is all you have listened to i would urge you be more eclectic (to use your words) because there is a lot of great stuff out there.

i realize that it can be time consuming to search out a bunch of new stuff and listen to it all (though i am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to listen to music the entire time i work), so i kind of see this part of the message board as a way to find some stuff i may be missing without having to listen to absolutely every release that comes out. i am just trying to post some bands i have been excited about (and some that i am not so excited about) to help everyone make educated choices in what new music they are listening to (as you all are doing for me likewise).

Haha, fortunate indeed krug. Was just looking at your lists and thinking, holy crap, this person listens to a lot of music Razzer But yeah, interesting lists.

What I'm enjoying and not, listed in word categories rather than numerically 'cause numbers are bad:

Great:
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim

Good:
Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

Not bad, not bad at all:
Hot Chip - Made in the Dark

OK bordering on slightly boring:
British Sea Power - Do you like rock music?
Magnetic Fields - Distortion

Yawn:
Destroyer - Trouble in Dreams
Evangelicals - The Evening Descends

Haven't heard the Bon Iver album yet, will be checking that out soon.

i'm of the same opinion. i try to branch out as much as possible. you never know when you'll discover a diamond in the rough in your opinion which will open the doors to much more music.....but that's the downside of it: then you end up with too much music to ingurgitate. but still, i'm glad to listen to all sorts of differents types rather than staying in a comfortable niche

Good to see Foals getting some love, that is a debut that anyone can be proud of. Also have to agree with those tipping Crystal Castles and Hot Chip but beware Lightspeed Champion.

Was this released in 08 overseas? It hit shelves very, very late in 07 over here in the States.

In regards to his appearance, he is pretty unfortunate-looking. His album isn't sounding so hot right now either, but I've only heard four or five songs so far.
