the length and the scatter-brain nature of quinn walker's recent release makes it hard to for me to listen to multiple times. however, there was some interesting material, and he is definitely talented and original. do you have any song recommendations from the new release, so that re approaching the albums is a little less foreboding?
also, what kind of music are the 2nd, 5th, and 9th choices? i haven't heard of them before.
I would describe Samamidon as orchestral Appalachian folk.
thanks, i remember who this is now. isn't this a 2007 release though?
any info on the other's in "The Doctor's" list that i mentioned?

Now that I've had the time to absorb a lot more albums, I can give a real list.
t1. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend t1. Drive By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark 3. Black Mountain - In The Future 4. Shelby Lynne - Just A Little Lovin 5. Magnetic Fields - Distortion 6. Sheryl Crow - Detours 7. Hot Chip - Made In The Dark
Doc note, I dissent. A fast never prevents a fatness! I diet on cod.

Quinn Walker I would start with "Smile for me"; "Chicken wire" "Porcupine" are all good. But the album opener "Plenty of Water for Mud"; "I'd like to take a picture" and "Rita Lollita" are the best tracks on the album.
Sam Amidon "All is well" leaked last year, but it has not been released yet.
Battle of Land and Sea is a beautiful atmospheric Folk record that's very gentle on the ears.
Harpeth Trace is a mix of Pop and Folk.
I hope this helps.

i've been looking for that one for months. i first heard him in november and after much searching, ended buying an import of his ...Chicken... album, which i really like but i'm very much anticipating All is well, love "Saro"

"Laughter's an asshole" is the superior album. It's more cohesive, and it has the better tracks. Both albums are really good, though.

In somewhat of a lull for new music in the last month, but have picked up one new (and great) album:

I've listened to a stream of the Mountain Goats once. It sounded good, but it's too soon to rank it.

And, what's up with this insidious trend of putting punctuation in your album titles? Exclamation points and question marks abound. It must be stopped!!!!

It's a little ironic, then, that you added a period to this album's title; that's not going to help your cause.
1. Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel - Atlas Sound* 2. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend 3. Hercules & Love Affair - Hercules & Love Affair* 4. Trouble in Dreams - Destroyer* 5. The Evening Descends - Evangelicals
Also good: Quaristice - Autechre* Studio 1 - Box Made in the Dark - Hot Chip HLLLYH - The Mae Shi
Late for last year's list, may fit in somewhere: The Sound of Light EP - The Field (I don't normally include EPs, but I haven't decided whether I will consider this to be one) The Cool - Lupe Fiasco There Will Be Blood OST - Jonny Greenwood (not sure I will include soundtracks either)

Lol! My bad.
I guess I was trying to say that it's the best. album. ever.
I don't really think it's the best ever, but it's my favorite this year.

Could you describe Lightspeed Champion?
garbage. haha, but seriously he's pretty bad. i guess as far as genre goes, he would be considered indie or folk. devonte hynes used to be with test icicles, but his new project is a lot different: highly produced, lushly orchestrated, and cheesy to the point of making my ears bleed.

i think you are wrong about Lightspeed Champion . "Falling Off The Lavender Bridge" is a very good release with its indie-folk , chamber-pop and Americana influences , with a beautiful orchestration n often nice/clever lyrics.
if that album was from an american or a canadian band it could easily get at least an 8 from...pitchfork...if you know what i mean...
1.Super Furry Animals – Hey Venus! (..but i will not count it in my list cause its a 2007 release for me)
1.British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? 2.Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend 3.Lightspeed Champion - Falling Off The Lavender Bridge 4.Magnetic Fields - Distortion 5.Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark 6.Black Mountain - In The Future 7.Hot Chip - Made In The Dark
