i think so too. i don't know why it's the case. each time i feel like listening to it, i think to myself "the reviews say it's so so" and i hesitate but then i go "but I liiiiiiiiiike it" and then pop it in my stereo and enjoy it. actually, i don't know many of the originals so it's probably not as fun as someone who does but "Breathless" came on (i hadn't checked the names of the songs) and recognized a couple of the words and got that feeling we all know "oh my goodness...i know this! what it is?!? argh!!! wait.....lemme think.......where did i hear that chorus? NICK CAVE! YES!!!! WOOO HOOOOOO" .... and then i realized i was alone and there was no one to congratulate me

1. British Sea Control - Do You like Rock music? 2. Evangelicals - The Evening Descends 3. Times New Viking - Rip it Off 4. Xiu Xiu - Women as Lovers 5. Sons and Daughters - This Gift 6. Magnetic Fields - Distortion 7. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend 8. Hot Chip - Made in Dark
I thought 2007 was such a good year for music, only the British Sea Power album would make it to my 2007-list. I'm still waiting for a couple of Norwegian albums, patriotic as I am :-))
I need something new/weird/electronic/different/dark to fill me up: something great though like 9/10, 10/10. I'm leaning towards something comparable to The Knife, Venetian Snares or Burial (less dubstep)
Any Suggestions?????? 2007/2008

DJ Hidden The Later After is pretty dark drum and bass, if you're interested, I don't think there was much released in the vein of The Knife last year.

Like previously mentioned, the new Autechre is great. I would def. advise anyone (even if they're just starting to get into electronic or IDM) to grab it.

I just haven't stopped listening to Autechre, Hercules, and Black Mountain. I was drunk last night and meant to put on some porno, but put on Black Mountain on accident... and decided that they were essentially the same thing.

I'm glad this is getting recognition; i placed it at number three in my 2007 year end list. The absence of the record on any compilation besides mine was confusing to say the least - the North American release date explains this somewhat.
Sound of Light was released in Europe late last year.

....? Sound of Light is an ITunes only EP as far as I've seen. Are you sure you're not referring to From Here We Go To Sublime? And if you're referring to From Here We Go To Sublime then I'm pretty positive it was on plenty of lists.

Definitely Not. I came across Sound of Light to my suprise when i clicked From Here We Go Sublime's 'arrow link' on my iTunes library that, in turn, connected me to the store.
I purchased the EP on the first day of this year according to the ID3 tag - although i could swear i acquired it earlier - leaving me enough time to absorb the material and place The Field's second offering in a lofty position.
[EDIT: UK iTunes release date is listed as being 04 December 2007]
I don't use ITunes and I live in America which is why I had no clue... I'm surprised I didn't see any mentions of it prior to.... actually, I don't think I've seen any mentions of it besides from where I got it from.

The track "Easy" by Hercules & Love Affair reminds me of The Knife a lot. Really moody and thick.

Lyle has always been in his own little genre, throwing in big band, gospel, and alternative influences.
Neither are mainstream country. They are better than country because they more than country.
I dont know much about Garth Brooks but to me its very mainstream
To chasten the new arena in Kansas City, MO - the Sprint Center - Garth Brooks performed NINE shows (in the span of like 2 weeks) in November of 2007 that all sold out within a day to a cumulative of something like 150,000 people. Mainstream is a bit of an understatement.

the length and the scatter-brain nature of quinn walker's recent release makes it hard to for me to listen to multiple times. however, there was some interesting material, and he is definitely talented and original. do you have any song recommendations from the new release, so that re approaching the albums is a little less foreboding?
also, what kind of music are the 2nd, 5th, and 9th choices? i haven't heard of them before.

I would describe Samamidon as orchestral Appalachian folk.
