None of them, which why the change was unwelcome, at least for me. Get Lonely was spotty, sure, but I haven't heard a MG's song that has topped "Woke Up New".

"The Sunset Tree" is pretty up tempo, I think you would enjoy that one. "Tallahassee" also has it's up tempo moments.

I would say that every Mountain Goats album besides Get Lonely is up tempo. In general the Mountain Goats are a major-chord, medium-to-fast-paced band.

Oh, come on. Heretic Pride isn't even in the same league as Tallahassee, We Shall All Be Healed, The Sunset Tree, or The Coroner's Gambit. I'd vote it one of his weakest efforts.
This said, I really need to give this album another chance. It oftentimes happens that when re-listening to an album I initially disliked, I come to quite enjoy it. I'll give it a listen soon and we'll see.

I'd agree. Thematically, it isn't quite as strong as some others (I'm looking at Tallahassee here) but it has some seriously great individual songs. Sometimes an album can just be a collection of very good songs and be good that way...
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I think Pas/Cal's "I Was Raised on Matthew, Mark, Luke and Laura" has yet to get the attention it deserves. It should appeal to fans on Of Montreal and Belle and Sebastian, and, to do some serious over-hyping, it reminds me of "Pet Sounds."
I really liked the album "Slick Dogs and Ponies" by Louis XIV. This album got terrible ratings, which I disagree with. I think this album was unique, catchy, and sometimes funny.

Well, good for you for not letting "red ratings" scare you away from something. Personally, I couldn't stand that album (or their last one, truth be told), but I knew some people who would dig it and passed it on. I didn't think it was "37" bad. Of course, I'm a fan of Uwe Boll and Mayhem, so I might be totally skewed in my outlook. Actually, come to think of it, I like Uwe Boll for the same reason you liked the Louis XIV album: they're unique (oh god, they are unique *L*), catchy (or, infectious), and sometimes you get some laughs. As for under-hyped albums, once again I must hype up L'Autrichenne by Jucifer. They are what I like to call the Black Stripes. Instead of a boy-on-guitar/girl-on-drums/let's all break out the Zeppelin fan-boying, it's girl-on-guitar/boy-on-drums/all hail Black Sabbath. Now, I've been a fan of Jucifer since I fell in love with Becky's amplifier but this album takes it to the next level. First, it's a concept album. About the fall of Marie Antoinette. Then there's the versatility wrought by a bare-bones duo. It's equal-parts Sabbathy rockers, brittle, gloomy pop, sludge-heavy doom and total hardcore-thrash metal blastbeats. It's everything I really deep-down love in one neat package. It's got one of the most kick-ass opening songs I've heard in years in "Blackpowder" and more molasses-heavy sweet, sweet gloom in "Deficit" than in any album NOT called "World Coming Down". Love it. Plus, along with Harvey Milk and R.E.M.'s stunning comeback, it completes 2008's weird return-to-Athens, GA trifecta.

Late of the Pier's "Fantasy Black Channel". This is just such a fun record and reminds me of Klaxons a bit, but better. They're kind a proggy, I guess.
I'm absolutely in love with Goldfrapp's "Seventh Tree". I haven't heard much talk about it.
Those who are fans of minimal music, afrobeat and/or jazz should check out NOMO's "Ghost Rock". I did hear them through the Fork, but it's a tight record. Really cool jive too it.
I've yet to sit into Spiritualized's "Song's in A&E", but I'm adamant on it since constant repeats of "Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space".
It pays to kill anyone who has information.

Agreed.

Perhaps its because I live in North America where the Kaiser Chiefs are relegated to cult status, but I didn't even know about this album until I read the Rolling Stones review. And its a damn fine album of catchy and fun indie rock songs. Sure it got a 73 on Metacritic, but I didn't hear a thing about the album until the other day. Maybe it's because their last album wasn't ripped apart by the critics...
yo.

Mother Mother put out an album that just put their first album to shame, and I've heard next to nothing about it. Seriously, it's a hell of an album The Constantines album is not nearly as bad as people seem to think, it's no Shine A Light, but it seems like half the music world has forgotten about these guys. Blitzen Trapper is getting a lot of good reviews, but for the near-masterpiece that it is, it should be getting A LOT more press. My Morning Jacket and Islands albums aren't as bad as the reviews say.
Much of my Top-10 is made up of under-appreciated gems:
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line Todd Snider - Peace Queer EP R.E.M. - Accelerate Peter Broderick - Home Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grievances
Not to mention other albums that I love but I think have been unfairly written off:
Rancontuers - Consolers for the Lonely Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark
I love the under-appreciated thread. It's nice to see people talking about music they like rather than trashing music that other people may like.

Heretic Pride is really good, but it still finishes fifth among his full lengths this decade. It goes like this
1. Tallahassee 2. The Sunset Tree 3. All Hail West Texas 4. We Shall All Be Healed 5. Heretic Pride 6. Get Lonely 7. The Coroner's Gambit
To say it's 'not even in the same league' seems kind of silly being that the quality of darnielle's songwriting on ANY album is tacit and Vanderslice's production get arguably better release to release. It's always a small matter of degrees with The Mountain Goats all loaded between the 85-95 percentile.
I can't believe ravinglunatic shunned All Hail West Texas though. He must be a ... raving ...lunatic.

Dude maybe it's because you obviously consume indie media outlets, but the Gaslight Anthem has and still is super popular in punk circles. You know, punk? The genre they actually are.
Speaking of under-hyped albums. I'm pretty sure I'm still the only person on the planet that has listened to Sleep Station's The Pride of Chester James. It's not going to bust anyone's top three perhaps, but it's a very solid album, from a consistently good artist.
