I, too, like the British Sea Power album.

I mean, come on, it has the greatest album title in all of history, so you know it's gonna be good...

Where can I hear this Tyler Ramsey album? Download it or is there an online stream?

Overall, wholly unimpressed by the Magnetic Fields album, sad to say. "Too Drunk to Dream" and "California Girls" aren't bad but the production just kills it for me.

Yeah, I agree, Chamberk. I would love to hear the album without all the sludge.

Descriptions like "ear bleeding distortion," "drowning in noise" and the always wonderful "sludge" actually make me want to hear this album.

There are artists and styles of music that work with this sort of production. I just don't think that Stephen Merritt is one of those artists.

Why do you say that? I don't see much difference in his delivery from Nico (VU). I think it's a perfect direction to go in from the precious, fragile arrangements of i.

I think it sounds wonderful.

The production and arrangement is absolutely top-notch for that album. Which is kind of weird to say for Mountain Goats, but his ridiculous good lyrics are still around so overall it's a win-win.

I have heard a few rumors about why Merritt chose the distortion theme. The most convincing I have heard so far is that he has a hearing problem where he receives feedback from certain tones. He hoped to communicate the experience that he has making and listening to music with his listeners by adding layers of distortion similar to the feedback he heard naturally.

Might be a load of crap and it doesn't make the music sound any different, but it is an explanation.

Sorry to spear off on a mainstream tangent, but i'm quite enjoying The Von Bondies new EP We Are Kamikazes Aiming Straight For Your Heart. It Bodes well for their new album.

Besides the aforementioned and Johnny Greenwood's OST There Will Be Blood, i haven't heard anything record wise from 2008.

I mean, the distortion on the Magnetic Fields' new album is a legitimate creative choice that I respect, it just doesn't appeal that much to me.

It's less electronic, but I don't mind that this time with Xiu Xiu, because this album is just great.

I really like the Von Bondies, I think they're quite underrated. Their debut will always be one of my all time favourite albums. I cant wait to hear their new one. Well they are releasing an album this year right? Not just an EP?

I'm fairly certain so, yes. The EP is a precursor to Love, Hate and Then There's You - what i understand to be the title of The Von Bondies 2008 long-playing return.

I posted this on another forum relating to the EP:

"Heard the new EP 'We Are Kamikazes Aiming Straight For Your Heart' then?

I'm quite bowled over that an artist void of any commercially available material for a substantial period of time has actual returned with something worthwhile and not flopped like a dead rabbit shot in the head at point blank range with a shotgun.

I'm so used to my personal expectations and hype rising beyond all logical reason towards my 'old favourites' only to be dramatically let down upon artistically redesigned return (a la First Impressions of Earth) that The Von Bondies reprise is ACTUALLY GOOD and worth the wait.

Shocker. They haven't reinvented fire or anything, but it bodes well for the album."
