I've found this to be true in the last several years with my listening.
Sometimes, the artists that I expect to do well do exactly as well (Low, Spoon, Sigur Ros, Erin McKeown, etc. hardly ever disappoint, if ever) as I think they will with their releases.
i know people are amped for the new my bloody valentine, but i am worried they will tarnish their reputation. how can this album be anything but a huge letdown? hopefully they prove me wrong. mbv fans what do you think?

IV the new album by bluegrass band Chatham County Line ...with some new sounds including an increasing pedal steel, piano and Hammond organ presence from upright bassist Greg Readling, as well as touches of electric guitar from frontman Dave Wilson. Another new sound for this record (set for release by Yep Roc on March 4) is Caitlin Cary...
first 3 albums were stellar so i dont expect nothing under a top 3 album
This is all going to be a rehash, but I'm definitely looking forward to the new Wolf Parade album... I saw them live a couple months ago, and from the six or so new songs they played I think that their new material could actually top Apologies. A new Wrens album would probably make my year, but I'm not holding my breath (if they keep pace, it'll be out by 2010). And somebody mentioned The Notwist earlier, too... I think a new Notwist album sounds like a great idea.

The new Sam Phillips album. Her last album, "A Boot and A Shoe", was my album of the year for 2004. A consistently great career that has been virtually ignored.
I'm also curious about the new Shelby Lynne album of Dusty Springfield songs.
My Morning Jacket - TBD Avalanches - sophomore release Autolux - sophomore release Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath
Can't wait for MMJ. I'm a huge fan and am hoping for something epic, hopefully even better than Z.
Not on the same level, but Nada Surf has a new album coming out in February. Didn't love The Weight is a Gift but thought Let Go was one of the best 20 albums of the Decade (no really), so I am looking forward to their new one as well.

Ok, now I am getting excited. Any more info on this? I'm too lazy to look it up myself.
There has been absolutely nothing official, but they turned down Bonnaroo to start work in the studio. So there's got to be something there.

Also, there's been a long-brewing Lil' Wayne/Juelz Santana joint project in the works that I'd love to see surface.

I'm excited for the new Gnarls Barkley. Say what you will... that was a good album last year.
I've heard "Atlantis" isn't the name, though...
