I believe Portishead, The Avalanches and Big Boi/Andre 3000 have new albums on the way as well. Plus I think Ghost is doing some kind of album with Doom over old Dilla beats, they've already put out a single.

(But yes, I can't wait for that release as well...)
Waiting till April of next year would be a big mistake for the Grizzlys. These are great songs and all, but they will feel fairly old a year from now.
You're right. "Two Weeks" and "While You Wait for the Others" were both great live, and I'm still re-listening to them weekly but these will have been out there for a loooooong time before getting on an album.
(Confirmation: New Album - April '09, so says Grizzly Bear co-frontman Ed Droste over at Billboard, calling the title-TBA upcoming record sunnier than Yellow House: "I think we're all in a really poppy place for sure.")

After hearing the single "5 Years Time" and the gorgeously anthemic title track, I'm really looking forward to Noah and the Whale's debut Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down. I thought I was done with sunny indie-pop after spending the majority of the month listening to Boris and Harvey Milk, but their charms are hard to resist.
Granted this isn't a 08 release, but apparently Camera Obscura are working on a new album come early 09. Their last one, Let's Get Out of This Country, was a wonderful little gem of an album.
09's looking better all the time.
edit: and holy shit, yeah Portishead IS thinking about a new album. NICE. Third is easily AOTY right now, one only wonders what they could get up to with a fourth album.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

Nate's new band Fun (awful name, no?) release their debut early 2009, and demonstrate their wares here
I just bought Dog Problems the other day. It was the only thing on my 30 album wishlist that was available at Borders, and I had a coupon, and I had an itch for new music. But I wasn't really sure what I was getting into with it.
I've been really pleased, for the most part. It's a lot of fun, and has some very real energy in it. It reminds me a lot of The Spinto Band, and The Shout Out Louds' Howl Howl, Gaff Gaff. If you are missing the format, and haven't listened to these, you should check them out.
Spinto Band still have a new album coming out soon too. So this post isn't even off topic.

Originally posted by The Fall of Troy: I've just found out that one of my favorite unheard of folk/americana artists is coming out with a new record.
Todd Snider - Peace Queer (August 19)
Todd Snider plays a unique Nashville country tinged folk/rock. He specializes in telling stories of the down and out with a satirical eye and a keen wit.
He's been on a roll since 2003's Near Truths and Hotel Rooms which is a live set in which he lost the band. It was just he and his acoustic guitar, going through his very strong back-catalog. As good as the songs are, the better part is his storytelling regarding how he wrote the songs. A perfect window into who Todd is as an artist.
He followed up the live album with arguably his masterpiece - 2004's East Nashville Skyline, which featured the hysterical protest song "Conservative Christian, Right Wing Republican, Straight White American Males" and the funny and thought provoking "Ballad of the Kingsman", which compares the FBI investigation of "Louie Louie" to people blaming Marylin Manson for the Collumbine massacre.
Next came 2006's The Devil You Know which is every bit as good as East Nashville Skyline, and even made Blender's, No Depression's and Rolling Stone's year-end best of 2006 lists. The title track is a rollicking rock-a-billy track which explores race relations through the story of a black kid that robs a bank. "Looking for a Job" is an anthem for those who have nothing to lose, as the protagonist construction worker tells his boss to kiss off. And "Just Like Old Times" finds bitter-sweet romance in a story about a pool hustler that meets up with his ex-girlfriend who is now a hooker.
Although last year's Peace, Love and Anarchy was a mediocre odds and sods collection to finish his contract with Oh Boy records, it features some of my highlights from last year, such as the rocker "Cheatem Street Warehouse," the Jimmy Buffet-like "East Nashville Skyline," and my personal favorite "Some Things Are", a story that is so touching it almost brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It tells the story of a man who discovers that they boy he has raised might not be his son. I wont ruin the story for you, but it pulls at my heart-strings every time. It also features Todd's classic wit, with lines like:
"The doctor will see you now is not what that means, It's a smaller room with even less magazines, Where you sit around and wait for an hour it seems."
As you can tell, I'm totally geeked out for this release. I may sound like a fan boy, but if this post gets one person hooked on this well-deserving artist, I will have had a good day. Please check out his work.
It looks like I will have to wait a little longer. I just read that this release has been pushed back to October, but it's going to be available on his website for a free download.

I haven't been on here for about a month....any discussions on the new Tricky album???? I've seen ads in some mags now, and think t's out in the UK already. I've given up on this guy, but his first two albums are still great.

i've had it for the past several weeks but still haven't gotten around to listening it. but my expectations aren't very high according to reviews and a few friends who've heard it.
