Also - do we actually know if MMJ has an album scheduled for an 08 release, or are we just thinking "Well, it's about time, isn't it?"

The Mars Volta (I don't know why, I guess I am just hoping for another Deloused)

A new one from The Faint would be absolutely sweet. And yes, I think everyone who was stunned by it when it first came out is hoping for another Deloused. *Sigh* I think that may be expecting too much. It sucks when a band seems to peak early on in their career. Not that I'm a huge Volta freak, but still--Deloused was awesome.

Man, it sounds like this Vampire Weekend band is set to become the next Shins. I really liked a few songs of theirs I heard, so I guess you can count me in as anticipating it as well.

I'm sort of looking forward to Vampire Weekend's album too. I heard their three song EP they put out this year and found their sound pretty refreshing.

I'm also looking forward to Cat Power's Jukebox.

I didn't think it was that bad.

Aw, dude, you gotta hear Gordon Lightfoot's version of "Ring Them Bells." It so destroys the Dylan and Sufjan versions. It's off of Lightfoot's awesome but sadly overlooked album Waiting For You.

I don't know if it's due out next year, but I'm really excited about a the third part of Subtle's Hero trilogy.

They have a "hold over" disk of remixes and collaborations coming out this Tuesday called Yell&Ice that sounds really good.

Gosh, I really hate that cover. Sufjan is going way too cutesy and orchestral for my tastes. I have a feeling his next record is gonna suck. And this is coming from a huge fan of his last 3 albums. I even enjoy Enjoy Your Rabbit and A Sun Came. The stuff he's been doing lately isn't good though.

I haven't really been won over by Vampire Weekend yet. Maybe it'll happen next year.

How many of these are confirmed releases?

I'm a bigger fan of the Tweedy and Cat Power covers. After hearing Chan Marshall's take on "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" I might actually have to give her some ear time.

Funny hearing Chan Marshall imitate Dylan's vocal style. Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to Cat Power's sequel to the Covers Record, Jukebox, out Jan 08.

Not that I care (much), but why are there two threads that are ostensibly covering the same subject? Since 2008 ain't yet, aren't all albums "anticipated"?

My year would be complete with another The Wrens album. It's the album I'm most excited about out of the ones I see as possible.

Also, Vampire Weekend, Islands...and more I'm forgetting about.

I loved 2006, so if a lot of those bands release new albums, I'll be pleased.

Portishead. I listened to Dummy today and I'm really looking forward to hearing something new from them.

I honestly have no idea what is even coming out in '08 - oh, wait, I thought of something else: <shh, don't tell> Coldplay's 4th album <end whispering>. Smiler

Portishead is one of my fav. bands of all time. I can remember being in junior high making a web site devoted to them. Love them.

I was ecstatic to hear they're putting out new stuff.

Another vote for Vampire Weekend. I have only heard them a few times on the radio, but "Mansard Roof" is ace.
