Shit I'm still trying to get around to listening to Armchair Apocrypha and now this. I heard him on World Cafe a few months back and he sounded great, so I need to get on the ball.

I just found out that British folky James Yorkston has one coming out September 2nd. His 2004 album, Just Beyond the River, was great. I'm hoping he'll return to the form he exhibited on that one.

In my experience, when an artist says their album is coming out in about 6 months, this means that it will in reality be released no sooner than 12 months hence.

Don't say that.
I would like to hear the album prior to going to boot camp.

SCOTTISH folky, thanks! You didn't like Year Of The Leopard? I think he's incredibly consistent. I'd have to say his debut album, Moving Up Country is my favourite, though. It holds a special place in my heart. Looking forward to the new album.

Oh, man, I spoke way too rashly and inconsiderately before. I'm not a big fan of the military, and it's virtually impossible to speak openly about it anywhere in real life, so it all came bursting out here. Suffice to say that I dicourage anyone I can from joining the military but understand the practical exigencies that could drive someone to it. Personally, I'd literally sooner go hungry than join the ranks. (I almost said I'd sooner starve, but come to think of it, I think I would join the military before starving to death).

I joined the Navy, and am going into linguistics, I never considered myself the military type, and probably am not, but I need some real change in my life and the military was just about my only option. But thanks for the concern guys. Boot camp is in January, so I'll be sticking around for a while. If the military is good enough for Hunter S. Thompson is must be good enough for me.

I've been reading James Yorkston's website about the new album and he says it's a return to the old form, in that, he took the same recording appproach as he did on his earlier records and that he is very, very happy with the new album. I think, his last one - Year of the Leopard, he kind of lost himself a little, I don't mind the record, but it seems to be a little bit of a tailing off of his last two 'great' albums. I'm hoping it's a return to that form that we all seem to be expecting of him. I think he's one of Britain's great new songwriters in that classic form, sort of like a throwback.

He said January '09 at a festival appearance in Des Moines last week.
I like what little bits I've heard of Neil Halsteads (Mojave 3) up coming solo disc 'Oh, Mighty Engine', out at the end of July. It has an old school Iron and Wine, stripped down acoustic sound.
I'm really excited for a new Grizzly Bear album, but I think I'm almost equally excited for Dan Rossen's (practically) solo album, under the title of The Department of Eagles.

I've seen mention of a Modest Mouse EP, yet I can't find anything on their website or Metacritic's list of upcoming releases. Any body know anything more?
