Well, I suck at explaining to people what so-and-so sounds like, so I have this question to ask: How would you describe Animal Collective's album Strawberry Jam? I've been trying to give my best explanation, but it's pretty weak.

It depends on who you're talking to. If I'm trying to explain AC to someone who has never heard of Black Dice or anyone who doesn't know what found sounds are, sound collages, field recordings, samples, 60s pop melodies, and various other things AC are so fond of... well, I wouldn't bother explaining. Now, if they know what all of those things are, go ahead and tell them it's a mixture of the above. If they're familiar with Animal Collective's discog then you can take it from comparing prior releases (not as experimental as most other releases but in a way reminds me of Spirit They're Gone's use of sound). AC is a tough band to describe, not to mention that I don't enjoy describing a band's sound since it depends on what music the person has heard previously and what aspects of music they pay attention to. Which is why I like genres, they take care of the dirty work for me (usually, barring certain ones- I'm looking at you, post-punk) so I don't have to explain a sound. Namedrop a few bands, throw a genre tag on them, then let the person decide for themself if it's up their alley or not. What a great album reviewer I make, huh? "I hate describing sounds.... so I'll start a music blog and do just that!"

Honestly, it's pretty lousy, and this is coming from someone who actually likes Coldplay. I won't bitch too much before I hear the whole album, but I wasn't impressed. And maybe it's silly to complain about the cover and artwork, but why they put a Spanish title (from a Spanish painting) over a famous French painting depicting French history is just beyond me. Totally strange. And as for Death Cab, I didn't like "I Will Possess Your Heart" at all either. So I'm starting to feel a little disillusioned already about my anticipated albums.

Are Black Kids still on track to release their debut later this year? I hope so.
New list: New Sigur Ros (out sometime this summer?) Fleet Foxes - s/t (I haven't listened to the illegal rips yet) New Sufjan Stevens (I don't want to start any rumors, but I can FEEL it coming.)

So. Anyone know what is up with Subtle's Exiting Arm? It's original release date was today, but I'm fairly certain that has changed. I'm finding three different release dates at various locations around the internet, none of which I would consider reliable. There isn't even anyone mentioning anywhere that is has changed ever. It's sort of sad. I haven't heard the album yet, but this group is horribly unappreciated and unadvertised. Everything that they have put out so far is both classic and progressive. That said, Dose has started posting his epic poetry to the Exiting Arm website. Check it out if you are in the mood to be confused.

I love Subtle, and have had the leak for several weeks now. That said, I think you may be disappointed when you finally hear it. ********************** Metal-Archives POTDquote: im looking for pretty much the most uninspired/unoriginal brutal and/or slam death. with little or no variation in vocals. stuff like disgorge(us) and condemned.

I've been awaiting Elephant Micah's new one for a while now. It was supposed to be out this month but has been delayed until June. Still very excited. He also has another album completed that should be out before the end of the year, maybe even this summer.

He also mentioned Slipknot. So, obviously he is joking.

I was being sarcastic earlier. Maybe I should have used a winky face. Seriously though, I have a hard time pictureing someone being excited about a new Slipknot album. To each his own, but their style of music seems to be the most consistently redundant genre in the musical world. It's not that I can't imagine people enjoying it, it's that I can't imagine people actually liking one form of it better than another. As far as Alanis is concerned though, I'm actually glad she is still producing music. I'm not a particular fan of hers, but I have a similar facination with the artist Poe. Sadly I think Poe has disapeared forever.
