Guillemots in March. I am so, so giddy with excitement. If it's anywhere near the quality of their debut, I can basically pencil them in for #1.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

Forward Russia Glassjaw and The Delays will all be awesome. Also i'd like something from This Et Al and the Duels. Postal Service and The Islands will both be lovely treats as well

explosions in the sky i saw them perform in nyc in 2007...they are even better live than recorded. they also seem to improve with every record, so i'm looking forward to a new release, not to mention their show in nyc during feb.

So, the new Los Campesinos! has leaked, and I haven't downloaded it, because I'm trying to be patient on this one, but man, I'm excited about that one.

The new album by Drive-By Truckers, Brighter than Creation’s Dark will be released on January 22nd—the same day as Cat Power’s new album. It will most certainly be the first big Tuesday of 2008; I am looking forward to it.

I grabbed it based off of hype.. I've seen a lot of build-up. And at first I felt like they were just another generic, hyped indie band.. the next bland thing, but I kept listening and wound up really liking it.

After one listen, Los Campesinos seems like mostly hype except for the stellar song "You! Me! Dancing!" They are a great deal of fun live, though, so credit where credit's due. Also, I hear Neko Case is writing new material. If she puts out a new album this year and it's anything close to as good as Fox Confessor, 2008's top 3 might be a rehash of 2006's top 3 for me. Too bad the Decemberists are waiting until 09, then I'd probably have the same top 4.

That's what I thought at first too, but upon giving it more attention, I feel the hype is kinda deserved (although I'm not sure how much they've been hyped, I've become a sort of hermit, not reading many sites these days). It feels like the next album to blow up as a result of p4k, but I think it deserves some hype. A lot of fun, nothing spectacular, easily swallowed.. you know, I think that has become one of the biggest deciding factors for me. If I immediately like it, generally it gets lost in albums that take time. It's like a slut verse a girlfriend, girlfriends make you work whereas a slut lets you get it the first time.

It'll be my first purchase too, well first 2008 release anyway. Uncut reviewed it in their year end issue and gave it 4 stars.

I've had it sitting on my harddrive for a while now but can't convince myself to listen to it. I just don't like Cat Power. She's just really dry.

Pssh, you couldn't resist my boyish charm. The only thing I'd be working is... umm.... nevermind, I'll leave it at that.

In case anyone missed it before (thanks to JGlass for linking it in the Dan Bejar thread a while back), here's the link to where Hello, Blue Roses - The Portrait is Finished and I Have Failed to Capture Your Beauty... is streaming. It's coming out on the 22nd. I loved it on first listen and added it to an already long amazon order last week.

I really liked Hello, Blue Roses at first, then Sydney Vermont's voice started to get grating, but now I absolutely adore the album. I'm also really diggin the punk stylings of New Zealand band Die! Die! Die!

Hello, Blue Roses kind of seemed like by-the-numbers folky stuff with Dan Bejar occasionally drawling through, but that was just after one listen. I'll give it some more chances but it didn't really appeal to me at first glance.

I've heard Cat Power's new album and it sounds pretty good. Her cover of Bob Dylan's I Believe In You is amazing!

Some of the arrangements are way beyond "by-the-numbers-folk" which is why I likened it to The Hussing of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell... it's folky upon your first listen but the more attention you pay the more distance it gains from traditional folk.
