Morcheeba's Dive Deep is wonderful. The opening track is gorgeous and mellow. Just an awesome album, though it's far from perfect.

I was into Morcheeba for a week or two, and then wasn't interested anymore. How updated is there sound? Have they developed themselves, or pretty much remained stationary?

Ya the new Magnetic Fields disc is pretty sweet. Merritt is such a good songwriter, and even though I am not a huge fan of the distortion idea, the songwriting skill is still apparent even with that wall of distortion. This one might take a bit of time to grow on me however (like all of his past album have had to).

Diggin on the new British Sea Power. Will listen to Magnetic Fields soon...

Magnetic Fields is sounding good. Then again, they could have just put those pop songs down without the distortion and have had it sound fine....

Morcheeba hasn't been good since Who Can You Trust and The Big Calm. Charango and The Antidote were both seriously disappointing. I've fallen off them.

Can still rock with their first two albums though. good shit.

I agree. The more and more I listen to it the more the background distortion irritates me, especially since there are some killer pop songs here ("California Girls" and "Too Drunk to Dream" anybody?).

The new British Sea Power is pretty dang good.

The Magnetic Fields record is good...but it gets annoying after a while. "California Girls" is a killer song though.

I really can't agree with any of you guys on your Magnetic Fields feelings... I think that the noise is what makes this album such a great departure. "i" was so pretty and clean, so open and free.. this one is noisy, clouded, almost harsh but still very pleasing to listen to. It adds a great touch to the songs. Merritt is able t write amazing lyrics, but that isn't (singularly) what made "i" awesome to me- it was the combo of the heartbreaking strings and his voice and the lyrics, all mashed together. "Distortion" is great for the same reasons- it has the entire package (just clouded distortion instead of heartbreaking strings this time around).

The new magnetic fields is great, especially through headphones.

I just listened to Who Can You Trust? the other day. Fantastic record. The b-side from it called "On the Rhodes Again" is also great.

But yeah, their last couple records have been terribly disappointing

Another 2008 release that has really struck me has been from Tyler Ramsey, the guitarist for Band of Horses. His solo album is a country-tinged folk record, with beautiful arrangements and vocals. If only the last Band of Horses album was this good...

So I gave the new Hot Chip a listen through...and I was pretty disappointed.

I'm sure it'll grow on me as I listen to it more come 2008, but my hope of it taking the number 1 spot to remedy "The Warning"'s low ranking in 2006 seem like a pipe dream.

I've never been a fan of Band of Horses, but this does sound good.
