Fans of psychedelic music from around the world should check out Bully Records compilation of... well, psychedelic world music. It's entitled Obsession and is absolutely fucking incredible.
Also, the reissue of Sunn O)))'s 00 Void comes with a second disk that are all remixes by Nurse With Wound. I cannot wait to hear them... I'll update tomorrow (aka in 8 hrs) with the results.
Another compilation full of rare tracks that's completely blowing me away is Local Anesthetic.
It compiles tracks released on Colorado's Local Anesthetic label from 1978-1983 and essentially manages to sum up all the major underground movements of that time: punk, hardcore punk, post-punk, and no wave. Two of the tracks feature Allen Ginsberg (with band The Gluons).
This stuff is harsh, catchy, witty, and at times pure genius. I highly recommend it.
Originally posted by tod41: In terms of bonus tracks, Van has been extremely cheap on the first batch. Basically two bonus tracks, with the exception of Its Too Late to Stop Now, where there is only one. No deluxe treatments, which is a real shame.
I would imagine that Morrison used the best outtakes and rarities for the excellent Philosopher's Stone from 1998. Since that collection is still in print, he's probably being careful not to make it obsolete via bonus tracks on the new reissues.
JGlass, that Local Anesthetic comp looks pretty cool.

You can also stream this whale of an album at the same link. Your welcome.
I second Jack's recommendation of Jesus of Cool. I just downloaded it, and it's amazing. Truly a lost gem. The way that Lowe simultaneously mocks the music industry while lovingly paying tribute to various styles of pop music from the 50's, 60's and 70's is pure genius. This is by far the best album I've heard this year. If you haven't heard this yet, do yourself a favor and listen to the stream above. I'm sure you'll be hooked.

A hearty third to these comments. It's a fucking pop classic (or "new wave" as it was called back then by genre slingers) and reminds me to wonder aloud yet again why he didn't become at least as big as other "angry young men" like Elvis Costello and Graham Parker back in the day. Don't miss this, kids. Really. Trust this old guy.
Another note on Jesus of Cool. Yeah, that is the best album title of all-time. But it was only released in the UK with that title. In the US, it came out as "Pure Pop for Now People" with some different tracks. (Maybe Columbia's fear of offending a puritanical American public?)
Mogwai - Young Team reissue is out on May 26 and the bonus disc has these tracks:
01 Young Face Gone Wrong 02 I Don't Know What to Say 03 I Can't Remember 04 Honey [Spacemen 3 cover] 05 Katrien (Live) 06 R U Still in 2 It (Live) 07 Like Herod (Live) 08 Summer (Priority) (Live) 09 Mogwai Fear Satan (Live)

I'll fourth(?) the recommendation. Easily the best album I've bought all year.

I've yet to check out Jesus of Cool, though I've been tempted on multiple occasions. Looks like the four recommendations here are going to be enough to push me over the edge. Might even head out to pick it up tonight.
A couple of records that I'm surprised haven't been mentioned are Mission of Burma's early work: Signals, Calls and Marches, Vs. and The Horrible Truth About Burma. I was just rocking out to "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate" last night, actually.
Also:
Microphones' The Glow Pt. 2 (which I've got a weird soft spot for) Otis Redding's Otis Blue Sebadoh's Bubble and Scrape Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville

I already own the deluxe reissue, I can't go buying a super-deluxe reissue. I hate when they do this (seemingly) pointless crap.
Originally posted by Cheesyp00f: Young Team reissue is just awesome. The bonus songs are really great but the live version of Mogwai Fear Satan is just incredible.
i still remember the day i bought their debut.an amazing record.definitely worth the money for the bonus tracks.
The Better BeatlesMercy Beat (1981) - I just caught wind of this on the Aquarius new releases tonight. The Beatles covered in a way that sounds really refreshing today - and probably did back in 1981 as well.

I'm looking for Russian Militant Black Metal. Semi-good production is a plus, as are clean vocals (if kept to a minimum). Also looking for vocals in Russian. Basically like a Russian version of Absurd...
