How much longer do we have to wait for the 2008 Top 30...it's the number one reason I come to this site...year's already a third over.
Dear Metacritic, listen to this man. Please and thank you.
...you should go to the "music" section. in that page go to "upcoming & recent releases" (left of that page) and click "sort by score"... i suposse that you can have what you want...
Hmmm, didn't notice that...thanks.

Maybe even worse than Protest the Hero?

I'm going to keep complaining about this until more reviews are added which reveal how much of a turd-biscuit this band is.
Now that a Metal album is #3 on the list, will all of you Electronic fans that shot down the proposal to require more reviews for the "Best of . . ." list now agree that having such a low number of reviews allows albums that have smaller niche followings without broad appeal to monopolize the top of the list? If we had a requirement of at least 15 reviews, it would have prevented the abomination that is Protest the Hero.

Which reminds what the main reason for a unique best-of-'08 list is--review requirements, which the "list-by-score" does not have.

Looks like a pretty crappy year so far, judging by what the critics have liked.

In this age, with so many bands out there, and such ease of access to their material, I think it's almost impossible for a year to be truly crappy in a wholistic sense like some dreadful rock n' roll years of the past (1973-74), but that said, this year definitely seems to lack the punch of 04,05,07 with it's top tier albums or the staggering stylistic variety of 06...a few niches have been stronger this year than in recent years...jammy/progish rock and singer/songwriter oriented material in particular...but Pop/Dance Rock have definitely taken a backseat in 08 after the Bonanza that was 07.

Obviously going just by MC is a mistake, but I find most of the albums that get 85 or higher and at least 15 reviews are quite good, and most of the albums I end up liking get at least 75. The MC rating is more helpful than an individual magazine, but not nearly as helpful as looking at recommendations from other music listeners or just sampling bands' stuff on their myspace site. The problem with an MC best of the year list is that it doesn't take into account number of reviews, except for having a very generous minimum cutoff.

Sorting the Upcoming and New Releases list by score isn't the same as a 2008 Top 30 list because it only includes the last few months, not all of 2008. For instance, Bon Iver no longer shows up there but it was released in February 2008.

I've given up hope ... Best option now is monthly megacritic update that ranks year's top fifty on www.acclaimedmusic.netRight now Portishead #1, with Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Nick Cave, Vampire Weekend, Hercules and Love Affair, and Lil' Wayne fleshing out top 7, though I forget order at momment.
