I'm not talking albums that are awful proportionate to hype. I only dislike stuff like Vampire Weekend & Los Campesinos as much as I do out of a bafflement regarding their acclaim.

In this thread I'm just talking about albums that are bad, the baddest of the bad. Not just mediorcre/undeserving... BAD. For me the two most dire turds released this year are the new Tapes n Tapes and Ghostland Observatory. I mean, yeah, I huess some people are gonna say these are good but just... why? I mean they blow ass. There's not even a reason for them to exist, just bands writing music cause they feel they need to put an album out.

I'd suspect the new Death Cab will pan out much the same way.

More bands should just break up sometimes.

Atlas Sound. I listened to their album streaming twice from their myspace, both times not discerning anything remotely approaching interesting, barely realising when it ended, and when it did noticing I couldn't remember anything about it.

The two biggest stinkers of this year for me have been Cat Power - "Jukebox" and Gnarls Barkley - "The Odd Couple". Both albums completely fail to recognize the strengths of the artists in question and are boring. I especially think that the Barkley album will tank after all the success of "St. Elsewhere".

Just some lowly advice but usually, for me, this means that I should re-visit the album before I regard it as the "worst album of 08."

Same here. Found that album completely uninteresting and boring despite repeated listens.

Is anyone else worried that 2008 is just going to turn into another boring year for music?

For some reason, it feels like the even numbered years are always much worse than the odd.

That's too outrageous; even in the past decade, 2000, 2002 and 2004 were really amazing years.

While over the last 6 years the odd-numbered years have generally been better for me, I don't think this is anything other than a coincidence, and judging from the stuff set to come out this year, I think this is gonna be a great year.

02 rocked, 04 had a few great albums.

I had a 3-year theory based on 99, 02, and 05, but 07 had to come along and destroy that theory. 08 doesn't seem to be helping the theory either.

I guess I'm just looking at it from how strong a majority of albums have been in the last 5 years.

Ugh, not this year argument again...

I know I'm definitely in the minority on this one, but for me, 2001 puts every other year TO SHAME.

Why? I really liked Plans, and have no reason to think that they won't put out another solid release.

Are we or are we not in a music recession? I blame subprime downloading.

I heard VERY high praise of Narrow Stairs, but from a dubious source. But then, people around here didn't like Plans. So you've got to factor that in.

I really don't get this complaint this year has been pretty amazing thus far, you just have to look in the right places.

Well, Plans was kinda weak (although nowhere near as weak as some have suggested) but really, in all honesty, I have a vibe that this one is being put out more as an obligation than a labor of love. Just a feeling I guess...

If your favorite bands put out albums every 2 years, and most of them release in odd years, it may not be totally a coincidence. I'm reaching but there may be a little truth to it.

Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through The Static" has been the worse one for me this year. Such a bore.
