We do, and I did just this morning, before reading your post. You must have a great mind, because we think alike. Wink

easily The Carter III, it's a good but highly inconsistent album yet has gotten mostly stellar reviews. Both Rolling Stone and Blender have basically lost their minds when it comes to him, not to mention Pitchforks obsession with him out of nowhere.

I tend to agree, I was slightly offended by Weezy receiving 4.5s from Rolling Stone (who almost NEVER give anything higher than a 4).

I wouldn't say its as overhyped as, say, Vampire Weekend (imo the most overhyped of the year), but it's definitely overhyped. Although I would still say it's the best hip hop album I've heard this year (if Jay and Kanye come out with albums, I expect them to be much better than Tha Carter 3). At the moment, it isn't even in my top 10 for album of the year, and last year I had 2 hip hop albums in my top 15 (Graduation and American Gangster).

Dude you need to listen to some better hip-hop, off handedly I'd suggest

Invincible - Shapeshifter
Elzhi - The Preface
Blue Sky Black Death - Late Night Cinema
Metaform - Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
PSY/OPSogist - Suffused with Static

I just got the Jean Grae / Blue Sky Black Death collaboration and it is ill. It's called Evil Jeanius, check it out.

Regarding Carter III, it's good, it could've been all time top 10, but even still it's not even the best "mainstream" rap album of the year. Bun B, Killer Mike (even T.I., if not for that atrocious numa numa song) dropped better records this year.

lol @ lil wayne.

However, to defend Wayne, Carter III in it's compromised state, is still head and shoulders above the bullshit listed in these two posts (haven't heard Ayatollah or Psy/Opsogist though)

lil wayne is trash dude. Deal with it. If P4K wasn't so far up his ass nobody on this site would give a shit about him.

And no, nobody actually believes you've listened to any of those albums listed.

I got it too, I just hadn't listened to it enough to put it on that list Wink, and you're right it is quite ill.

Also lol @ ThalidomideNinjas claiming to have heard all those albums and referring to them as bullshit.

They'd be correct, heard a couple of songs off each except for Murs. However, point stands.

EDIT: Oh shit, and madlib. listened to murs and madlib in their entirety. I don't know why you even bother man, carter III went platinum in a week and to hear you talk about wayne, you'd think he got there exclusively on the back of pitchfork. I'm not sure this is a conversation you have the clarity of perspective to attend.

Except there is absolutely nothing whatsoever mainstream about either Killer Mike or Bun B's releases.

However I agree that both are vastly superior to that mumbling retard. Wink

Of course the point doesn't stand. You haven't listened to the albums and are in no position to judge them. Saying that the releases from BSBD, Madlib, Elzhi and Metaform are 'bullshit' and then praising lil wayne is embarassing frankly.

II Trill has sold 250,000 units and spent three consecutive weeks in the number 1 position on the billboard rap charts. Was in the second spot of the top 200. Killer Mike doesn't boast anything resembling that numbers wise, but he comes from a very commercial pedigree and has a presence beyond very attentive consumers.

"mainstream" doesn't mean TRL nor does it refer to an aesthetic or a classification of sound.

Why the fuck are you even bringing up album sales to back up your argument? The amount of units sold has NOTHING to do with how good an album is. Bringing up those stats makes you lose credibility immediately. Dude, you're out of your league here. You need to go to a site like Rolling Stone.

are you retarded? i was responding to his assertion that there was "nothing mainstream at all" about those two releases. Not addressing their quality.

The elitism on this forum is often embarrassing. Discussing music is cool and all, but sometimes you guys need to accept the fact that there are more important things than winning an arguement. In fact, I think we are losing our ability to have discussions, we only know how to disagree with someone in an argumenative way.

Well besides Turenne's lol@ lil wayne, we were trying to be productive and suggest some good music to some people who have apparently found little of it this year. It wasn't until thalidomideNinjas referred to those albums which he hadn't listened to as bullshit, then an argument ensued, I also have no idea wtf His Dudeness is talking about. My argument to his would have been that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot has sold over 500,000 copies are you gonna call it mainstream?

Also, what could possibly be more important than winning an argument?

Yes, I'll admit that my own personal tendency to brawl with dissenters has undercut my ability to have productive sessions in this forum. I'm going to make an effort to be more agreeable. I agree with your assessment Shadrach.
