Hmm... not the hugest fan of X&Y... Here are two reasons, among others: "Clocks" = "Speed of Sound"! They're like the same exact song! Please tell me someone else noticed this. Furthermore, Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" is probably my all-time favorite song... so I have issues with Coldplay's "Talk" taking that melody and adding dumb lyrics to it. BOOO! Anyways, back to the topic at hand... About a month ago, I'd argue that the No Age record was probably the most over-hyped thing so far this year, but I kinda like it now. So... I guess I'll have to go with the Neon Neon album. It breaks my heart to say it, but it just doesn't work for me...

Consistently mediocre, maybe. And to answer this topic, I'd say No Age or maybe Hercules & Love Affair. I've played it for at least a dozen friends haven't had a single positive (or even neutral) reaction. It faded quick...

I'm with you on those. Hercules bored the hell out of me. I thought it was completely by the numbers and truly disapointing for DFA. I liked it when the Rapture's Echoes came out, but I get nothing from dance-punk any more. Haven't heard the new No Age, but their debut EPs were so disorganized, sloppy, and terribly recorded, I can't imagine the new album is much different. They're just white noise with a hint of guitar somewhere deep in the mix. ________________________________________________________ "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. You are right about "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound" The 2 songs are very similar, even I noticed. Still, can't blame em for taking the same idea and making 2 stellar songs out of it.

I think we can solidly say Fleet Foxes is on the overhype train, despite the fact that it's a fine album.

I definitely agree with you. I like the album, but it's not the key to the meaning of life. One of my mates who lives in Ireland bought it because of all the hype. He hated it, then sent me an angry text. I wouldn't have minded, but I didn't even recommend it to him!

Definetley. The 90 it got from Pitchfork was undeserved.

I find that it doesn't have great staying power... but it is still very pretty and somewhat different.

Lil Wayne Every critic is losing his shit over this one, and while it's not a bad record, it's not even close to 'American Gangster,' 'Fishscale', 'Underground Kingz' etc.

Have Vampire Weekend fallen of the hype-machine? Because man i find those guys undeservingly praised. Fleet Foxes i feel isn't really over-hyped as much as they are over-lauded if that makes any sense. I mean, to me hype entails puffing up a band before their album comes out and everyone talking up how amazing the band is. I don't really get that sense from them. I think Band Of Horses were a whole hell of a lot more hyped two years ago, but it doesn't really affect my liking of BoH. Is the Portishead really over-hyped? Man, i love that album (album of the year so far for me), so i guess I'm a little blinded by how much i enjoy it. I'm going to go with Bon Iver and wait for my anal-scathing from the rest of you. It's too reductive i feel and, to be completely honest (and i think the man is completely fascinating and at times entirely amazing), i just don't really enjoy it musically. I do really enjoy his vocal affectations, but i think that albums is simply great rather than some sort of singer-songwriter masterpiece.

No anal-scathing, I agree with you. I'd say it's closer to good than great - I just don't really find the songs all that impressive. He's even getting loads of hype and airplay on Australian radio, which has me surprised a little. But still, it's a good album, and not even close to No Age in the overhyped category, Nouns has 2 almost decent songs and the rest bores me to shit. Agreeable review

Vampire Weekend: If I wanted to listen to rich kids play faux-world music, I'd throw on Graceland. I hate Graceland. Fuck Buttons: Wha? What is this, the rebirth of Metal Machine Music? I like noise but enough is enough. Hercules and Love Affair: Yawn Fleet Foxes: I also hate Crosby Stills and Nash. Guess what Fleet Foxes reminds me of? I need to find a thread for underhyped albums...got a Jucifer album to rant about...
