Thats exactly what I was thinking. If anything I could see them regarded as a "one trick pony", so maybe thats what he meant.

I thought the last two Clinic albums were pretty forgettable but have really been enjoying Do It!.

I almost feel like dropping the newest Nine Inch Nails album in here. I haven't seen such a disconnect between what people are saying about this and what I've actually heard in the music in a long time. I keep listening to it and wondering what the hell people are on about, and this is coming from someone who's probably the biggest NIN fan on these boards.

Eh.

I don't know about the US, as I can speak for Norway only. In Norway, The Second Line was a big hit. Actually, I admit my post was misleading. I was thinking of the album Internal Wrangler.
And no, I don't think of them as a one trick pony. I have written before that I am happy that they have a distinct sound. Not many bands spend time to "carve out their own path".

I'm going to have to go with Gorillaz "D Sides", this album is comprised mostly of B Sides from Demon Days, and it just doesn't match the quality of its A Side counterpart.

Demon days is still my favourite Gorillaz album, and probably will be for the next year or so.

I think the album lacks heart. It's slick, punchy, and well-produced, but fails to inspire the head-spinning revolving themes that the best albums do. It's very "2D" to me. I'm still not quite sure how to feel about it.

Isn't that the definition of a B-side?

I agree. Found it very samey, vocals pretty uninteresting.

Though I enjoy Santogold's self-titled album to an extent, I must say that I don't get a lot of the "rave" reviews for her. She's amusing, but not amazing.
I haven't found too many albums that I've actually wanted this year, with the exception of the new R.E.M. and Death Cab (still hesitant about those, however). I always look for the high-rated releases on Metacritic, but this year... Robyn??? 87?? Seriously?!! I could only take about 30 seconds of her obnoxious voice on Myspace. And her beats didn't sound that amazing either.

i thought so too. it's a grower. i can't really tell you what's special about it, i'm still trying to figure that out myself. it just feels good i guess. i still don't think it's incredible, but i'm not sure if it's done growing yet.

The Metacritic scores are pretty retarded(although at least half of the Robyn album is well produced pop imo). The Nick Cave, Bun B, Cut Copy and HLA albums are motherfuckin' snoozefests for a start.

The Coldplay one should be good. The My Morning Jacket one should be good. Alot of people consider Coldplay a "girl" group or a "teenybop" group. I dont understand that! Those guys are consistent with their music every record (even though I dont support their enviormental political causes).

Sorry.

Yeah... Maybe you should go check that one out. I think you will find it very peanut butter pudding surprising.

MMJ was a disappointment. It's okay, but really uneven.

It's fair enough not liking Coldplay for self-righteousness, but the cause is sound enough, and if X & Y was consistent then I'm freakin' Gene Simmons. That said, the new record is alright.

Fleet Foxes is worth recognition. I don't have a true sense of how big its "hype" is right now. It's not one of my favorite albums of the year, but I can totally see why people would love it.

You dont think X&Y was consistent? from the start with "White Shadows" to the near ending "The Hardest Part" with songs like "Fix You" and "Talk" and even "Speed of Sound" in the middle? I thought that record was great, if not better then "Rush of Blood to the Head". Cant understand why people cant like this.

Sorry.

Coldplay was very consistent on X&Y. You have no idea what you are talking about... and Gene Simmons? Right when I read that, I knew I had no way of reasoning with you.
