Is anybody else out there in as much love with this label as i am.Man...these guys consistently put out "severely electronified"hip-hop.So hey have said before.I would call it more along the lines of idm...but.Machine drum, which i di have in my top 10 of 2000 list is the pioneer of glitch-hop so to speak. Before prefuse and anyone else.
Check out Machine Drum-Now You Know, i am in the procees of aquiring all of there catalog. Now that a bunch of it is available on bleep.com for download. If u havenet checked out bleep you should...u pay...but it is drm free and very high quality!
Anyways...i will post more about the albums i like. They have a great website too.If anyone else like this stuff...please post.
If not...i will just use this part of the forum to my please...and i will post what i am liking...
Take Care!

Alright...so know that everyone is paying attention to this post.I think it is time to get serious. I just listened to Lackluster "Showcase" both to and fro work...and this is a great piece of idm fare. The production quality is awesome...and itis an easy listen...very good ryhtems and non-repetitive drums. It takes a piece of alot of differnt styles and genres...all rleating to electronic. This album also clock in at almost 80 mins. That is ver nice. Not a waste of money!Sometimes when i buy electronic or idm albums.I am somewhat hesitant...becasue i always think i am going to hear the same record...i guess thats why idm is great...it encompasses alot of different styles.
Anyways...chalk this one up as a winner.A+.Thisone will go into heave roation probabbly till the end of summer...as a matter of fact...thi is actually a very broodeing and at times somber disc.Maybe it was the traffic...but at times it hit me pretty hard.Great Disc.

13 views...woohoo...we are destinerd to skyrocket now. So its another rainy day in seattle. It has been like 80 the past month or so.But this weekend it sucks...so when it rains i dont go out much.Or at least i can use it as an excuse to not go out...haha...kind of sad though.
So as i have mentioned before what led me to lovingmerck is machinedrums first album "now you know".Which i think is the first entry to be made in the "glitch-hop" style/genre...i have not done any scientific searching...i am sure someone else might have done something similar somewhere...but thats neither here nor there. This album is sick.Cut up vocal samplelayed over sweet synths on top of fat electronic hip-hop beats.Kind of has an old school feel to the drums and melodies...i guess.I personally think this is one of my favorite albums of my lifetime...i wish someone else would comment on it...if they have it.Even if they dont like it. I will write some more next week...i am sure nobody is looking forward too it.Yeehaw!

At this current state...we are 26 views and all the replies i can muster out.I have been in a boggle lately juggling like 10 albumsa day to listen too.Between new and old stuff. But this weekend my dad had planned a trip to see my grandma.I was exstatic...mostly becasue it afford me 90 minutes to and fro for music.
I decided to sit in the backof the station wagon...you know one of those drop down seats...that lokks backwards directly at the person driving behind you.I love that it brings me back.
Whenever i go on a small roadtrip like this...i always plan out what i am going to listen too.I figure 3 hours i can get in almost 3 albums.I will spare all of you the trouble and just talk about the one disc that relates to this topic.
It was Adam Johnson-Chiliak.Hot of the presses...well kind of...if u call me computers cdr the "presses.Anyways...i was in the back seat...and i brang my old black and yellow(i would say white but its not) game boy.Its gotta be like 10 years old.I was playing castlevania...first off the gave is addicitive as hell...i have probabbly beaten it 25 times in my lifetime...i cranked up the tunes in my headphones(trying to blare out my dads smooth jazz radio selection that tends to make me doze off in the car) and act like i am inmy own bubble playing this game and listening to some great music.
I have to say this album is like the perfect soundtrack to this game...it is like some dark electronic beats with some hip-hop ideas. It is all instrumental...i personally dont listen to lyrical music when i am playing video games...this album is very balanced alot of good and not very many bad steps at all.It has a very kind of joyfull first 3 tracks and after that...it turns into this dark kind of murky atmosphere...i love it.
It is not as good as lacklusters album but it is right there.
I will be back sooner than later to talk about some other albums off of mercks roster.
People feel free to check out some of this stuff...i went through all of the artists websites...and ther is like 3 cds worth of free music...that is high quality.Lackluster alone has about 3 albums for download on his website.Maybe i will post it next time...like all the ones with kickin' downloads for free...high quality.
See Ya!

well well...i am guessing either knowone cares...or knowbody on this forum has boughten any album off of merck?
So I am going to post some bitchin' links to a few albums that are downloadable for free.
1-lackluster I have downloaded and burnt all these tracks. cdr#2 fin chi pimp distance
these are all great examples of lacklusters style.I dont think any of these are as good as "showcase" but cdr#2 is insane...i love it.Dark electronics.
2-xhale Just another example of great electronic music for free. I personally think this album should be put out. With a few minor changes. But it is cd quality music.
So check these out and download some new music for free. Or just ignore this post and move on with all you rockish meanderings and post about the new release for whoever...

Deceptikon is probabbly the best instrumental hip hop jam album i have heard in a few years.Completely instrumental...i think it is hard for a mainly hip hop style non-vocal album to work.So when one does it must be special. It treads the line of putting me at ease and being able to keep my attention perfectly.
Landau-Thecommpromise
I am still trying to make my mind up about this one.I need to listen to it a few more times.it is good but...hmmn...its hard to say.
If anyone is interested go to the merckwebsite and get that summer mixtape...number three.it has alot of good new tracks on there. And it is a great starting point to figure out what kind of music each artist is making. And it does a good job of showing off the artists talents.
Good luck!

hmmn...how long has it been.Nobody really cares so it is cool.I just wanted to say i finally got an album from merck that i was actually dissapointed with.It is the new Machinedrum album 'bidnezz'...most of it is filler...maybe because like everyone is trying to bite on hiss tyle that he came up with...prefuse 73 and all that...it seems as if there is numerous electronic artists trying to stradle the edge of electronic and hip-hop....i hear it all the time these days...anyways...just a thought...nobody pays attention tot his post anyways

well thanks heather for noticing my thread...you know you are only the second person besides myself to post under this thread...and the other person has myseriously vanished off the metacritic premises?I hope you are not going anywhere?
Anyways...I saw that Pitchforkjust reviewed it today...woohoo...whatever.I agree with the review...except for the fact that travis stewart did invent the same style that is used by the likes of prefuse 73 and push button objects today. It doesnt really matter though.
Did anybody else see the ad for cingular wireless using parts of prefuse 73 songs??Very clever...oh yes thats right...nobody pays attention to this thread.
Har Har!

well prefuse 73 is actually one guy...scott heren...but he does perform under many psedo-names...ie. delarosa and asora, piano overload, ahmad szabo and of course savath and savalas. He is actually very prolific if you count all his productions and work under his many aliases...hopefully he wont get too popular though. He is popular enough now...i dont want to hear it all over the radio...well i would have to listen to the radio to hear it.Anyways...

I higghly reccomend the ilkae album. It is more of a debut than their first album was. This one actually has fullfledged songs.Albeit a remix album. But it is quite interesting.

You dummy that was not prefuse 73...it was dabrye. It is just one of the best idm/hip-hop tracks ever 'hyped up plus tax'.
I should have known better.
