It appears as though my post has been deleted. Why? This seems like the kind of place to pitch a record label, so that's what I was doing... I assure you I have plans to continue to contribute to this forum.

Would a mod please pm me and let me know what the problem is? Thanks.

i know this label from an other messageboard (afterthepostrock) and don't see why it shouldn't be posted here. having listened to some of their stuff, it might catch on with some on this board

If your name is WiseOwlRecords, and your one and only post is pitching WiseOwlRecords, that usually gets flagged as spam, which we don't take kindly to. If you want to leave the URL in your signature and contribute like the rest of the people here, that's fine.

^^^ Exactly.
Surely you must realize this board gets every single piece of street teams spam that the internet has to offer... well, I guess not, 'cause you seem surprised. You'll know for next time. Always plant some roots in the community first before advertizing.

so introducing myself and leaving my label's information in a forum clearly titled "Record Labels" is a no no simply because it's my first post?

What is this forum for, if not publicizing, and discussing record labels?

That's what every street team spammer does, so yes, you are correct.

It's for fans to discuss their favorite labels, not labels to promote themselves. I'm sure if you read the TOS or a "READ ME BEFORE POSTING" thread, that'll be in there. However, this forum is good about turning a blind eye towards such things if you are already a productive member of this online community, which you have not yet proven yourself to be. Try debating the merrits of Juno in the movies forum or bitching about the new Incredible Hulk video game or something first, and I'm sure you'll find the admins much more accomidating.

FMH is correct. We get lots of posts here on daily basis saying "Check out this [artist, label, site]! It's the best ever. Blah Blah Blah." They pretty much always get deleted, unless they're incredibly sneaky spammers/street teamers. Or they spam in a forum none of the mods read.

The bottom line is that most people here are here to discuss music, movies, games, etc., not to be advertised to. Now, if you've been here for awhile, and you're an otherwise productive member of the forums, and you want to say, "Hey, I hope you guys don't mind, but you might be interested in my record label located at...," that's fine. Or, as others do, leave the URL in your sig and go about posting. Eventually, someone will get curious and click on it.

Thanks, JGlass. Let me know what you think Smiler

In response to FMH and EricG75, I definitely understand where you're coming from with getting rid of spammers and whatnot. I participate in a number of online communities and I definitely agree that seeing Viagra ads and Jennifer Aniston's tatas gets old. I apologize if I came off as a jerk, but I considered my post to be relevant to this forum and Wise Owl is just as legitimate as Sub-Pop or any other label there's a thread about.

I don't think that'd ever get old.

I'm not saying Wise Owl isn't legitimate or relevant, BTW. If a dude from Sub-Pop or Matador came on and did what you did, their post would've been deleted as well, so just know that we're not playing favorites.

It's all good. I just hope I didn't make a negative impression. It just kinda irked me, that's all. At some point in the future, would a thread introducing my label be more well received if I didn't include the whole catalog? I guess that's probably what made my post look like spam.

That and continuing to engage in discussions like this.

If I were to download only one album from your site, which should it be? What's your fave?

Oh wow. I guess it depends what you're into. Toma's first album "From Ruins" is beautiful shoegaze / alt. rock. Charts and Maps is jazz-infused post-rock. Both of their albums are delicious. Vaznis is atmospheric guitar with glitchy beats, and is also for sale in the store. Ben Woods is really beautiful piano music.

Personally, I think I listen to Charts and Maps, Vaznis, and Don The Gun the most. If you're into breakcore and heavy electronica like that, Deathmash and Cutting Agent are good.

Let me know what you think. I'd love to get some opinions. Maybe even a new thread for discussion...?

Those are actually two of the three artists I grabbed albums by... I haven't had a chance to listen yet though.

Yeah, I deleted your post. It was your first post ever and it was SPAM.

And this forum is much more than just "What is this forum for, if not publicizing, and discussing record labels?". Check out the forum guidelines and policies.

They're very intense looking animals. I've always been rather fond of them, although that may be obvious.

edit: Also, I changed the topic of this thread. Perhaps this can be a thread for discussion of what you liked/didn't like from the Wise Owl catalog. I'm really interested to hear your opinions and feedback.

Thanks in advance for not deleting this thread.
