I know that a lot of metacritic members are into rap/hip hop music right now, and even if you're not in a hip hop mood, I strongly recommend to everybody to listen some work by these great artists from Anticon label:
You should definitely pick up Music for the Advancement of Hip Hop. It's the first representation of their music and the new ideas they had about hip hop. The title says it all and is very true. They did definitely advance hip hop. Other than that my favorite albums on or affiliated with Anticon would probably be:
cLOUDDEAD: cLOUDDEAD Boom Bip & Doseone: Circle Alias: The Other Side of the Looking Glass Sole: Bottle of Humans Restiform Bodies: Restiform Bodies Sage Francis: Personal Journals Buck 65: Talkin' Honky Blues
But they have released so much good music altough the last couple of years have been weaker. The new Odd Nosdam is good though.
Yeah seriously, pak is right. Subtle is basically a super group made up of everyone that is on the Anticon label. I could see how Anticon's output could be weak over the past couple of years since it's artists have been pouring so much of themselves into this project. Doseone especially has made Subtle his #1 favorite child.
The Exiting Arm is coming out sometime this year. I highly expect it to blow everything they have released previously completely out of the water.
---------------------------- There's an ember in the rafters and it's gonna burn this whole thing down.
I like just about everything Anticon puts out, but at the same time, there aren't many albums they've released that just blow me away. But I really like Hood, who has collaborated with a lot of Anticon artists.
