Jim Croce, "New York's Not My Home"

"Waking up at 6 a.m on a cool warm morning
Opening the window and breathing in petrol
An amateur band rehearsing in a nearby yard
Watching the telly and thinking 'bout your holidays"

Also British, if "telly" didn't give it away.

"This is my main concern with Obama; what if he has been groomed since childhood to blend in with the zionists and infidels? What if he has been led along by a radical islamic terrorist organization and positioned to become an influential politician?

What if Obama gets into White House and turns out to be some crazy muslim terrorist? What do we do then? We'll be pretty screwed. It could happen." -- by some fucking nutjob

"That's Entertainment" - The Jam from Sound Affects

"Wake Up It's A Beautiful Morning
Feel the sun shining for your eyes
Wake up it's so beautiful
For what could be the very last time"

Something from the 90s Brit pop scene? Verve maybe? I can't put my finger on it.

Ha, Ha! I just looked at your DIS, you gave yourself away.

Boo Radleys, "Wake Up Boo"

Here's a short one:

"When you greet a stranger
look at his shoes."

quote:
Boo Radleys, "Wake Up Boo"
I haven't heard the Boo Radleys in years. I did, however, read To Kill A Mockingbird last year.

No clue what you're song is, MJ.

the rest of that verse:
"Keep your money in your shoes put your trouble behind
When you greet a stranger look at her hands
Keep your money in your hands put your travel behind
Who are you going to call for, what do you have to say
Keep your hat on your head home is a long way away
At the end of the day, I'll forget your name
I'd like it here if I could leave and see you from a long way away"

Hint: Athens, GA

Sounds REM-ish to me, but I'm not familiar with the song.

Yup, Fables of the Reconstruction was a huge part of my life-- I guess it wasn't for everyone. It's from one of my favorite REM songs, "Good Advices." I just always loved that opening line.

This one should be easier. Same era different side of the pond:

"I would go out tonight
But I haven't got a stitch to wear"

hrmmm... I didn't think this one was that tough, but I'll post another lyric from the same song, to at the very least increase the visibility of the thread:

"You're faithful to the better man,
I'm afraid that he left.
So let me judge your love affair
in this very room where I have sentenced mine to death."

"True Love Waits" by Radiohead

"I've seen people caught in love like whirlwinds
listening to their squads and listening (f***ing) to (with) girlfriends
that's exactly the point where the whole world ends
lies come in, that's where that drama begins..."

"What Jail is Like" by the Afghan Whigs

"Oh, my friends don't understand me
and my wife begins to fear
that I've lost some sense of balance
and I've lost the will to live
And the radio,
AM radio,
oh the radio will set you free"

I had to google this one for sure. I've never heard the record. Might I suggest that we use some restraint on what we post? I think what might have killed the thread last time was that people were posting lyrics that no one knew the answer to. It's not very much fun if every other post stalls the thread for two days. Don't take it easy by any means, but try to post something you're pretty sure at least one person on here is going to know.

Hint? From a 2002 album by a long running, art-punk band out of Cleveland.

"but try to post something you're pretty sure at least one person on here is going to know." Well, I have seen the artist's name mentioned here several times.
