Great hint, and I am really slow today, so the first thing I could think of was Lucy in the sky with diamonds Big Grin
Hmm..XTC, then. But I have no clue which song, as I only know their hits... I'll listen to them now, at least

Sans' pick is "Calistan" by Frank Black. Almost looks like it could be taking out of that Black Lips song too, "Navajo".

This song is sung for anyone that's listening
This song is for the broken spirited man
This song is for anyone left standing
After the strain of a slow sad end

Good one, that's Uncle Tupelo's "Life Worth Livin'".

"Cover your ears so you can hear what I'm saying. I'm not lost but I don't know where I am. I got a question."

Seems really familiar, especially the "I'm not lost but I don't know where I am" line. How about a hint?

From a 1985 album by a band that was huge in the late 70s and most of the 80s.

That's Talking Heads' "The Lady Don't Mind". FKA loves Talking Heads.

All those whose mind entitles themselves
And whose main entitle is themselves
Shall feel the wrath of my bombast

This band has retained the same name for over 25 years and across some 25 albums even though it only has one constant member.

That's "Bombast" by the Fall.

She said it's hard for me to see
How one little boy got so ugly
Yes my little girly that might be
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me

Nice pick. "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key" - Words by Woody Guthrie, Music by Billy Bragg.

This is one is pretty easy but it's one romantic song and I love it:

"I said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood
your bones
your voice
and ghost
because nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way"

"I'll Believe In Anything" by Wolf Parade.

But you've never been a waste of my time / It's never been a drag / So take a deep breath and count back from ten / And maybe you'll be alright

Note to DimsiRupsi: Definitely check out XTC. Brilliant band, certainly one of the best of the '80s. I recommend you listen to Skylarking first, and if you can find it on vinyl, get it.

This song was from the debut album of a '90s artist that never quite gave a satisfactory follow up to her lauded first album.

Surely it's Liz Phair, but I have no clue what song. I'm quite unfamiliar with her.

Thanks for the recommendation, they're always welcome. I know they are good, I just never paid too much attention to them. I sure will try Skylarking. It's just that I have tons of albums to listen to at the moment Smiler

Go to your local record store and get a copy of Exile In Guyville now. She's never topped that record, but considering how good that album is, it's forgivable.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been curious about the album for awhile, but her new stuff has pretty much kept me uninterested, even though I know Exile in Guyville has a much stronger reputation.

Man, I think everyone pretty much gave up on this thread. We know the artists and the album but still no one has answered?!? Wink

Sonic Youth - "Schizophrenia"

So listen sweet Lord, forgive me my sin
‘Cause I can't stand this life without all of these things
Know I done wrong but I've Heaven on Earth
Know I done wrong but I could have done me worse

This 80s two-piece band's motto was "taking drugs to make music to take drugs to".
