Inspired by the Guess the Movie thread. Same rules apply. We'll start with an easy one.

"She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand."

"Happiness is a Warm Gun" by the Beatles

Continuing with simplicity.

"You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap, lousy faggot"

YES, we already have a Guess the Song thread on pg. 2. I should have done something, but here at work, it's difficult to act normally. I knew the quote, so I jumped in.

I'm just guessing here, but I would guess "Richie Dagger's Crime" by the Germs...

Right band, right album, wrong song.

Close enough, though...

It's "Detroit Girls", the opening cut from their 1976 debut.

We used to crank that one up on the 8-track player back in the days when I was washing dishes at the local Bill Knapps restaurant.

Part of me is glad I didn't get that one exactly right, the rest of me is sad I got any of it right.

How about this one

I don't care what he did with his women
I don't care what he did when he drank
I want to hear just one note
from his lonesome old throat

That's "Has Anybody Here Seen Hank?" from the Waterboys excellent Fisherman's Blues!

If I'm correct (and I'm pretty sure I am) I'll post some new lyrics tonight...I've got a class to teach in 20 minutes!!!!

OK,

Try this one:

"First I'm gonna make it
Then I'm gonna break it 'til it falls apart,
Hating all the faking
Shaking while you're breaking my brittle heart..."

Here's a hint:

this band was famous for songs to learn and sing...

ah ha, that hint made it a little easier.

I think it is bring on the dancing horses by echo and the bunnymen

Try this, a classic from another much more popular English band.

remembering you running soft through the night you were bigger and brighter than the snow
and screamed at the make-believe
screamed at the sky
and you finally found all your courage
to let it all go

Your were correct on mine, keylimetrev...it was Echo and the Bunnymen's "Bring on the Dancing Horses", a non-LP single and a fairly big radio hit in the 80's.

Yours is "Pictures of You" by The Cure, currently being heard in HP commercials.

Here's another one:

"Every day, I get up and pray to Jah
And he decreases the number of clocks by exactly one
Everybody's comin' home for lunch these days
Last night there were skinheads on my lawn"

Camper Van Beethoven 'Take the Skinheads Bowling'

"There's a black tinted sunset with the prettiest of skies
lay back, lay back, rest your head on my thighs
There is some awful action that just breathes from my hand
just breaths from a deed so exquisetly grand"

I'm surprised this thread didn't take off. I'm gonna try and revive it, even though I don't know what the lyric (posted in 2005) is.

"Roxy Music came to save the world
And all I got was this lousy T-shirt"

That's "Nancy Reagan's Head" by Mission of Burma

Here's a tough one...

"I thought I'd make the big time,
I learned a lot of lessons awful quick
and now I'm tellin' you
that they were not the nice kind
and it's been so long since I have felt fine."
