For example, I really admire the White Stripes. I think that the concept of a two-man band is interesting, and that both Jack and Meg White give the band an intriguing personality. That being said, I don't particularly like all their music. They have some killer tracks, but a lot of their stuff also sounds the same.
Anybody else have some artists/albums you appreciate, but just can't seem to fall in love with?

I like a lot of Bjork's tracks, but I can't stand her. I don't think she understands half the words she sings, though she has an incredibly unique voice and weird production. I just can't pull myself to listen to her voluntarily.

Those all consistently rule, especially Zappa and the first 7 odd Led Zep/BS records. Although, I'm kinda with you on the Rolling Stones. I love a lot of their old sh!t, but I can't listen to it until Mick Jagger dies. That horrible twit has ruined his own music for me for years.

I'm just not a big fan of Robert Plant's singing style. He says "baby" and "girl" so often it should be a drinking game. The rest of the band is great, although they are just playing metal versions of blues songs (that goes for a lot of Stones songs as well). Jimmy Page can absolutely rip it like few can, as everyone already knows. I'm not trying to knock any of these bands, they are no doubt some of the greatest ever, I'm just past my Zep phase and I love only a handful of Stones songs, but I still appreciate all of it.

How funny, I was going to say Led Zeppelin and someone already beat me to it. Whenever I listen to their music, I say to myself, "This is good, ENJOY IT!!!!" But, on a personal level, I just can't do it. I'm with mymindsblank, though, they are excellent musicians.

I love the albums recorded when Syd Barrett was in the band, and actually, Piper is one of my all time favorites. And the rest of their catalogue, I can admire for their ambition, but listening to it, I find it a little boring.
I respect Ben Gibbard, but I just don't like him in Death Cab. And I give Bob Dylan so much credit for being so influential and for his beautiful songwriting techniques, but I just can't stand his voice.

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands ever, but it is important to note that I refuse to acknowledge anything after The Final Cut as Pink Floyd. Anything after is dead to me...I don't really like The Final Cut either.
I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this, but Brian Wilson fits the bill for me.
I admire his artistic vision and creative production techniques, but 95% of his output, with and without the Beach Boys, does absolutely nothing for me.

Yeah, his lyrics are often the worst aspect of the band. I'll give you that.

I'm halfway there with you...I love the early singles...think they're every bit as good as advertised...and feel the best three or four songs on Pet Sounds are unbelievable...but overall, I feel Pet Sounds is one of the most overrated albums in rock n' roll (in that it presently lands in the top five all time...i'd put it 40-60ish), and I do think the 2004 release of Smile is the all time most overrated album listed on metacritic (and I say this when a friend of my, Scott Bennett, was the principal guitarist) Again, as with Pet Sounds, it has some outstanding tracks, but like Pet Sounds, has a lot of material that ain't that special, and unlike Pet Sounds, has a number of positively lame-ass interstitials.
With regards to older acts...love the sixties, never felt an urge to check out the Grateful Dead...always felt they were a great live band with very limited songwriting chops.
With Regards to contemporary acts...there's a certain expirimental (and often Canadian) side on the pop and shoe gaze spectrum ...Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Frog Eyes, Sunset Rubdown, Deerhunter, Atlas Sound that 9 times out of ten just leaves me befuddled.

Floyd can be great, but they are also one of the most heavy-handed, unsubtle bands in rock n' roll history...kinda the Oliver Stones of the musical world...boundry breaking, but in a bludgeoning way.

Man, you took the words right out of my mouth. I feel exactly the same way. I'd throw Wolf Parade in that mix as well.
-------------------------------------------------- Anatomy to me is a homesick stomach and a broken heart
-Woodie Guthrie (the production really kills me) -Donovan (actually a lot of the 1960s folk scene) -Lots of jazz vocalists and almost all classical music (no real explanation, just not a high priority)
I never hated any of you/I loved you all at the time
