Lots of songs try to make observations about politics, sex, love, drugs, youth, etc, but at least to me few of those songs actually succeed in changing my outlook about the song's subject. What is an exception? What song made you change your outlook on a certain life/religious/political issue?
I would say "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground changed my outlook on drugs. I've never tried heroin, but after listening to this song I can understand why some people might.
On a more personal level, REM's "Everybody Hurts" is a simply structured song about a simple, necessary truth: We never go through anything as a novice. Someone has already been there and survived. I find comfort and hope in that fact. I listen to this song very frequently.
