Save your apologies for those other early 90's teen pop stars, Silverchair Wink I've been a Ben Lee fan since his Noise Addict days, which, by the way, reminds me that "Pop Queen" (1:48) should be mentioned on this thread. I'll stand by his work right through Breathing Tornados, but I'll admit his work has been spotty (at best) since then.

Curious, what have you heard by Superdrag?

Only a few tracks here and there, admittedly. They just didn't seem to have much to make them stand out from the mid 90s indie rock crowd.

As for Ben Lee, I haven't heard anything he did before Breathing Tornadoes, which gets my dubious honour of Worst Album Cover of All Time. Although I seem to recall it was released with a different cover overseas.

Don't sell them short. Judging by the short mix you posted, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd really enjoy them. All four of their proper albums are great, but I'll admit I was sort of in your position when I first heard them. It wasn't until I saw them live that it really sunk in. The first album on Elektra, Regretfully Yours contains their hit, "Sucked Out" which is pretty damn catchy, but might be the weakest song on the album. The album that got them kicked off Elektra, Head Trip in Every Key is probably my favorite. Nods to the Zombies and Brian Wilson abound. The first post-major label album, In the Valley of Dying Stars is their darkest and most Rolling Stones' influenced record-- and this is many die-hard fans' favorite (with songs like "Keep it Close to Me", "Lighting the Way" and "Gimme Animosity" who could blame them?). The final album, Last Call for Vitriol is probably the least uniformly excellent. But about half the songs are fantastic.

Also, did I mention my GbV mix fits (1:19:22) on a CD? Smiler

I've been on a bit of a early 90s, lo-fi kick of late. Today I was loading up some old Sebadoh and forgot just how many short gems Gaffney and Barlow are responsible for. One of my faves from back in the day:

"It's So Hard to Fall in Love" (1:50) from The Freed Weed compilation (I think it was on Weed Forrestin' originally)

Two short songs that immediately come to mind are both from electronic artists, Aphex Twin's "i" and Boards of Canada's "over the horizon radar."

Fashion Coat - The National

The song appeared on Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers.

Just over two minutes. (I think 2:02)

Great lyrics, great tune, great song.

Half of the songs on Reveille by Deerhoof are less than 2 minutes long, but my three favourites are:

1. Eyebright Bugler
2. Our Angel's Ululu
3. Holy Night Fever

Three classics from a classic album.
