So, i thought i would like to go more into Power Pop, so i want to know what are your fav power pop artists/albums of all time. (yes i've read most of the posts in this topic). The only Power pop album i have is Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub and i like it. Any suggestions?
I don't know that much about power pop, but if you're new to the genre, you should check out Matthew Sweet. He's this great early nineties artist, got a big breakthrough with one album, and since then hasn't released much. Try Girlfriend, and if you like it you should get 100% Fun.
I just wanted to say thank you to those who recommended the Raspberries. I picked up their debut some time back and it is great! I will also be on the lookout for Fresh Raspberries at record stores in the future.

Try digging the used bins or used online shoppes for the Poptopia power pop series. There's a fantastic cd each for the '70, '80s. and '90s. The Yellow Pills series is always excellent (great mix, regardless of decade). Both series contain well and lesser known power pop acts. And both series are sadly OOP.
I'd also recommend the best of's/greatest hits for the Raspberries, Badfinger, and Big Star.
idk if i would really call them power pop but some bands that i really like: mercy mercedes freezepop four years strong the method to my medium the audition my favorite highway
Thanks for the recommandations. Until i buy a new power pop record, i'll listen Teenage Fanclub again and again and again.....still not tired after 10000000 listens

I'd recommend the four DIY compilations (Come Out And Play, Shake It Up, Teenage Kicks and Starry Eyes) and the Poptopia Power Pop Classics of the 70's cd for starters. I think these would give a great overview of the genre not to mention a number of perfect pop songs.
Then of course you need to hear a few of the albums I consider essential; Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub (which you already have, good!), Something or Other by The Someloves and the Nerves EP by The Nerves.
The Yellow Pills cds are also excellent as crazed mentioned. It might be a bit overwhelming though trying to get into all of these songs at the same time so I'd start with the DIY and Poptopia series + the three other albums.
Then later if you decide that you like the music you should check out more of the 'classic' artists i.e. Big Star, Raspberries etc. I wouldn't start with those for some reason, even though they're great
I'm no powerpop aficionado like many on this forum, but one of my early exposures to powerpop as a genre was
Bandwagonesque
, and i have to say it has remained a high point in my collection as a whole, and a personal benchmark for powerpop (although I'm sure a number of folks might quibble over the specific genre classification for this album, it sent me scrambling for Big Star, digging deeper into the Dbs and owning up to a love for Material Issue, Redd Kross and Jellyfish).... I also have to offer up big props to Matthew Sweet and highlight once again the excellent

Absolutely!
Speaking of Teenage Fanclub, I'm now listening to The Very Best of Daniel Wylie and Cosmic Rough Riders. Early CRR was definitely inspired by Bandwagonesque & Grand Prix as well as the Byrds, Beach Boys and Beatles (especially George Harrison). Mix these sounds in with some strong great americana leanings and the results are harmony heaven.
I like Cosmic Rough riders, espacially their single. you convinced me to buy Bandwagonesque i thought about bying it when i saw the CD at the music store but the cover is so...not inviting...you know
I grabbed a sealed copy of Chris Stamey's It's Alright on a whim recently. Haven't got a chance to listen to it - I love the dBs....is it worth opening?
I finally got around to listening to Big Star's #1 Record in its entirety. I swear I've heard somebody else sing "In the Street" before. Does anybody know who else has done that song? It's driving me nuts... maybe it was an Alex Chilton version or something, but I thought it was somebody else. Anyway, thanks in advance!
