Terrific album, A2S, and great to see it getting a guernsey.

You say you're a "geezer", so I'll permit you one Senior Moment. Smiler

You "forgot" Ronnie Lane. Cool

This is an interesting thread. I would really miss a few records, but a desert island is a desert island...
I'd bring:
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl I+II
Sleater-Kinney -The Woods
Television Personalities - Part time punks (Best of)
Blonde Redhead - 23
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane...
Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage
Chumbawamba - WYSIWYG
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
The Tables - Shady Whims And Obstacles

This is not neccessarily my ten favourite albums, but I'd like to have them with me..

I think variety and album length are big factors here - this isn't a list of my top 10 albums by a long stretch. I'd choose:

1. The The - infected (if only one this would be it!)
2. Radiohead - the bends
3. REM - automatic
4. Sigur Ros - takk
5. Faith No More - angel dust
6. Flaming Lips - soft bulletin
7. Talkin Heads - stop making sense
8. Tindersticks - tindersticks1
9. Yo La Tengo - and then nothing
10. Avalanches - since I left you

That has a bit of everything pretty much

David Bowie - Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)
Phil Spector - Best of the Girl Groups

Duke Reid - Treasure Isle Recordings
Prince Buster - Greatest Hits
Bo Diddley - Chess Recordings

I might as well add my own list.

I should add that if I really were on a desert island, I'd pack a giant inflatable CD that doubles as a life raft and another 300 foot wide CD made out of food, but beggars can't be choosers.

Mr Bungle - California
Ministry - Psalm 69
John Zorn/Naked City - Naked City
Derek & Clive - Ad Nauseam
Ozric Tentacles - Strangeitude
The Orb - Pomme Fritz
Steve Reich & Pat Metheny - Electric counterpoint
Melt Banana - Cellscape
Pulp - Different Class
Mike Oldfield - Tubular bells

I'll probably want to change this list in 5 minutes. So many CDs and I have to choose 10 - not fair.

Thankyou. My taste in music doesn't always meet with such favourable reactions. I'm pleasantly surprised that you've heard of Electric counterpoint - it is a beautiful piece of music though.

Oh, I'm a huge Steve Reich fan. Definitely one of my favorite musical artists of the 20th century. Electric Counterpoint isn't my favorite piece of his, but it's still quite excellent. You're right, beautiful is the best way to describe it.
