I also picked up "Writers Block" - Peter, Bjorn, and John.
I really enjoyed Peter, Bjorn and John's debut album which I picked up from Parasol records, I think their Hidden Agenda released it here in the States. I'm hoping to get the new cd if I drop in at Parasol on vacation.

I also bought More Songs About Buildings And Food by the Talking Heads: I never really got into their late 70's stuff... So I did some exploring and bought this... Next on my list to buy is another Wire album and Fear of Music by the Talking Heads and also OK Computer( I Lost My Copy )
Excellent. I've not picked it up yet and and I'll be very, very curious to hear what you think of it before I do.
If you've liked the Gin Blossoms in the past, you will not be disappointed. It sounds very much like the band circa '93: very poppy, hooky, and jangly. Check out "Learning the Hard Way" or "Come on Hard" or "Heart Shaped Locket" if you wanna sample.

I checked out "Come on Hard" based on your comments elsewhere and found it exactly as you described. I was dubious given the enforced personnel changes they've had to go through, but I like the new (old) sound.
On a marginally related note (i.e. bands which have enjoyed some mainstream success and will therefore be like garlic to a vampire for the indiots), I checked out the latest single from The Killers. I was pretty lukewarm on their first effort as a whole, but loved several of the singles, namely "Mr. Brightside." If the new single is any indication, I'll be taking a pass on this one.
Now Playing: "Nothing at All" David Byrne David Byrne

The lineup on the new Gin Blossoms features 4 of 5 guys from the second record, which was 5 of the 6 from New Miserable Experience. The missing piece on this record is the drummer from the 1996 record (who was on the first record). Doug Hopkins, who played guitar on NME, committed suicide between records 1 and 2. (Technically, records 2 and 3. They released, on San Jacinto, an indie record called Dusted, most of which was re-rerecorded for NME or appears on the deluxe version of that record).
As far as the Killers go, I have to say I LOVE the new single. They've admitted to being under the influence of Springsteen while recording album #2, and you can really hear him in the song. I think it's great, and a nice step away from the nouveau new wave of Hot Fuss.
I think in the case of the Gin Blossoms, I'm letting Doug Hopkins' suicide cast too long a shadow over their subsequent work, which is just foolish given how much I liked Congratulations...I'm Sorry. Thanks for talking me down off the ledge.
I guess I'd best reverse judgement on The Killers as well, then, though the nouveau new wave was one of the things I liked best about Hot Fuss.
Oh, and just to keep at least marginally close to the topic at hand two CDs arrived in the mail today:
The Only Ones Special View, which I've never owned on CD, and Chris Stamey Firewords, which I still don't own on CD as the sumbitch arrived cracked clean down the middle!
Now Playing: "Another Girl, Another Planet" The Only Ones <-- I just never tire of this song...
